About The Position

This role involves enforcing laws, providing services to citizens, preventing crime, investigating offenses, and arresting offenders. For Cadets, the focus is on completing a Basic Peace Officer Course to become a commissioned peace officer for The University of Texas System Police. The salary ranges from $62,000 for Cadets to $65,000 for Police Officer I, with intermediate increases upon course completion.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.

Nice To Haves

  • Possess a current basic TCOLE License.
  • Thirty (30) hours of college or more from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience working in a higher education or equivalent environment.

Responsibilities

  • Enforce the law, provide service, information, and aid to citizens.
  • Prevent crime, suppress disturbances, and investigate criminal offenses.
  • Arrest offenders with or without a warrant when authorized by law.
  • Recover stolen or lost property.
  • Prepare written reports detailing law enforcement and police activities.
  • Confer with local enforcement, criminal justice, and emergency response agencies.
  • Attend classes, maintain notebooks, and complete homework assignments (Cadet).
  • Participate in physical training, firearms training, and defensive tactics programs (Cadet).
  • Demonstrate necessary strength, agility, and endurance for law enforcement duties (Cadet).
  • Safely operate a police vehicle while utilizing radio and emergency equipment (Cadet).
  • Apply knowledge gained in the Basic Police Officer Course (Cadet).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
