About The Position

The University of New Orleans is filling two (2) Police Officer 3 positions. This role provides a full range of police services with a primary emphasis on enforcement of laws, investigations of crimes and accidents, and providing emergency services and crime prevention programs. The position may serve as an assistant shift supervisor by overseeing the full range of police services on an assigned shift. This is an advanced level position that differs from Police Officer 2 by the presence of routine involvement in complex investigations, intelligence gathering, and surveillance operations. It differs from Police Sergeant by the absence of direct supervisory responsibility. Requirements

  • Current test scores for the 2100-PSE (Protective Services Exam) or a valid exemption.
  • Two years of law enforcement experience.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license.
  • An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

Nice To Haves

  • Possession of an active Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a full range of police services with a primary emphasis on enforcement of laws, investigations of crimes and accidents, and providing emergency services and crime prevention programs.
  • May serve as assistant shift supervisor by overseeing the full range of police services on an assigned shift.
  • Intervene in complex matters requiring criminal investigation and collection of evidence, arrests, and testimony in court.
  • Work special assignments involving large crowd control operations, surveillance activities, intelligence gathering activities, and matters involving fire safety, environmental safety, hazardous materials, and selective enforcement programs.
  • May serve on a hazardous materials or crisis intervention response team and routinely investigate serious crimes and accidents.
  • Protect lives and property.
  • May serve as an assistant shift supervisor.
