About The Position
This position involves responding to service calls and patrolling the campus community by foot, car, or bicycle to effectively enforce laws and secure buildings and property. The officer will provide non-criminal assistance to members of the campus community while performing all duties and responsibilities of a sworn University Police Officer. Additionally, the role includes investigating alleged violations of criminal codes and University rules, making referrals and arrests to enforce criminal laws, and writing reports, completing logs, and entering data into a computer to record activities and unusual events. The officer will also prepare various documents to properly record specific events and activities.
Requirements
- Requires high school diploma or GED.
- Valid State of Ohio Drivers License with 6 points or less.
- Valid Ohio Peace Officers Certificate.
- Ability to pass psychological exam, polygraph, and a physical agility test.
- High moral and ethical standards.
- Strong communication skills.
- Basic problem solving techniques.
- Knowledge of laws and law enforcement techniques.
- Ability to learn and use first aid, CPR, AED, firearms, and computers.
Nice To Haves
- A minimum of 3 years’ law enforcement.
- Prior law enforcement experience in Summit County.
- Prior experience policing in an urban or college/university environment.
- Demonstrated interest in community policing and community engagement.
- An associate’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
