About The Position

Southeastern Louisiana University's Police Department invites applications for the position of Police Officer 1/2. This is a training series position that will allow applicants to be hired as a Police Officer 1 or Police Officer 2 based on qualifications. Police Officer 1: No experience required. Police Officer 2: One year of experience in law enforcement work. Current Salary Police Officer 1: $18.58/hr SER Current Salary Police Officer 2: $19.88/hr SER When applying, you should list all Education and Work Experience on this application. Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to be certified through the Southeastern Defensive Driving Course.

Requirements

• Must have a current Civil Service test score for 2100-PSE-Protective Services Exam for Law Enforcement unless exempted by Civil Service rule or policy.
• One year of law enforcement experience.
• Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will substitute for one year of the required experience.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license.
• An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
• All classified jobs in State service with police officer and wildlife enforcement titles qualify as law enforcement.
• Jobs outside State service that will qualify as law enforcement are those performed while commissioned with the power of arrest.
• Military police in the armed services are law enforcement; security/guard duty is NOT qualifying.
• Any college hours or degree must be from a school accredited by one of the specified regional accrediting bodies.

Nice To Haves

• Possession of an active Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification may be required.
