This is a paid internship position with the Kearney Police Department (KPD) and Buffalo County Sheriff's Office (BCSO). Interns will report directly to the Training Coordinator and will be subject to termination at any time without prior notice under specific circumstances, including criminal charges, failure to follow orders, unauthorized disclosure of information, or failure to complete assignments. Interns are expected to complete a daily activity log and abide by the department's rules and code of conduct. Upon commencement, interns will receive instruction on applicable policies and procedures. They will be held to the same dress regulations as civilian employees unless otherwise directed. Interns are expected to serve a minimum number of hours per week as required by their college/university, but not less than eight (8) or more than forty (40) hours per week. Interns are not eligible for overtime benefits. Assignments may include light clerical work, research, assistance with cataloging property, evidence, and records, ride-a-longs with officers, and attending appropriate training or events. Punctuality and timely completion of assignments are expected. The Training Coordinator will review all intern work prior to the completion of the internship.
