About The Position

Responds to emergency and non-emergency calls for assistance and information. Provides dispatch and communication support services for police, fire, emergency, and related services. Receives and responds to a variety of emergency and non-emergency services and complaints. Performs technical work in the use of communications equipment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Some knowledge of the street system and physical layout of the City.
  • Ability to learn the operation of communication equipment.
  • Ability to learn modern office practices and procedures.
  • Ability to follow established bookkeeping procedures.
  • Ability to react effectively in emergency and stressful situations.
  • Ability to perform work requiring excellent dictation, hearing, diction, and a clear voice.
  • Ability to be bonded.
  • Must be certified by the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy and Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation.

Responsibilities

  • Receives, evaluates, prioritizes, and relays information for incoming emergency and non-emergency calls.
  • Dispatches necessary personnel, equipment, and refers calls of a more difficult or questionable nature to a supervisor of the department involved.
  • Receives and transmits radio messages to and from units operating in the field; receives and transmits radio messages to state, federal, and county units as necessary.
  • Acts as a reference source and broadcasts information to units in the field such as pick-up notices for wanted persons, stolen vehicles, suspect vehicles, and wanted property.
  • Monitors security and/or fire alarm panel and takes action according to established procedures.
  • Maintains radio communications log and the locations of personnel and equipment.
  • Assists in training new personnel and maintains proficiency in the use of communications equipment, record-keeping systems, reference material, city geography, and related skills.
  • Provides a variety of general information.
  • Operates teletype as necessary and acts as cashier or notary when required.
  • Maintains records for storage, retention, retrieval, and purging as necessary according to established methods and procedures.
