This position is within the North Carolina Poison Control department and is a full-time role requiring 40 hours per week. The specialist will utilize clinical and communication skills to gather information about exposures, assess cases, and formulate and implement care plans. They will provide poison information to callers of all ages, utilize various information resources, and communicate recommendations to healthcare facilities. The role also involves providing non-toxicological drug and medical information, initial crisis intervention for medical or suicidal callers, and referring non-medical callers to appropriate agencies. The specialist will work primarily in the Poison Center, involving sitting, frequent telephone and computer use, and may assist in the Emergency Department if requested. They must be able to operate standard office equipment.
