About The Position

The RMPC Public Educator is responsible for developing, providing, and coordinating community outreach programs that promote poison prevention and awareness/utilization in all of the service regions within the Rocky Mountain Poison Center (RMPC) in collaboration with the Poison Center Director. The Educator will be responsible for overseeing and developing partnerships, committees and collaborative initiatives that focus on reducing the injury and incidence of poisoning throughout our multi-state service region. Also responsible for collaborating with RMPC Marketing and Denver Health Public Relations on RMPC publications, RMPC alerts, media relations, and social media programs as needed.

Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in the area of public health, health promotion, education or other related field
Two years of experience in public health education, community outreach or related experience
Social media proficiency
Works independently and able to meet deadlines
Willing to travel throughout the 4-state region
Valid Colorado drivers license
Experience in effective written and verbal presentations and communications.

Responsibilities

Participates in health fairs, outreach, and workshops in various communities within our 4-state region and for different populations at risk for poisonings and other targeted communities.
Develops original, culturally sensitive, literacy and age-appropriate educational outreach materials and curricula that spans a variety of target audiences for distribution at community events and workshops
Assesses community needs by developing and conducting needs assessments to determine appropriate poison prevention interventions for the 4-state region we serve based on call rates, health data and qualitative information.
Prepares or assists with qualitative and quantitative evaluation of public education programs including surveys and focus groups
Represents RMPC within local, state, and national community coalitions, advocacy groups, committees, and networks to broaden awareness throughout our 4-state region.
Participates, in conjunction with RMPC Directors, in the pursual, writing/preparation, and application, of grants related to ongoing funding of educational outreach activities. Prepares grant deliverables once grant(s) procured.
Attends Public Educator-focused meetings at toxicology conventions and other professional organization events. Conference attendance includes submission of abstracts and presenting results of research projects at local and national conferences and subsequent publication.
Actively participates in the America’s Poison Centers (APC) Educator activities and committees and keeps abreast of new educational programs and information. APC involvement includes completing public outreach sections on annual Accreditation requirements on behalf of RMPC and actively participating in National Poison Prevention Week activities.
Participates in the coordination of media events with the PC Director and RMPDS marketing team/DHHA Public Relations. Keeps abreast of current news, trends, and media events regarding poisons.
Assists with management and content development of RMPC’s Train the Trainer online program
