About The Position

Under the direction of the Clinical Lab Director and the Hematology Manager, oversees point-of-care testing at all NEHS locations in collaboration with the Patient Care personnel. The Point of Care Coordinator is responsible for the operations of the laboratory testing performed in areas other than the main laboratories. Responsibilities include equipment evaluation and selections; monitoring of quality control, proficiency testing and quality assurance; preparation of procedure manuals; and assuring compliance with all regulatory agencies.

Requirements

  • B.S. Degree / A.S. Degree in Biological Science or a minimum of 10 years Clinical Laboratory experience.
  • MT/CLS (ASCP) or MLT (ASCP) or HEW certification/license.

Responsibilities

  • Based upon first hand observations along with input from clinicians, nursing management and other clinical professionals, evaluates the need for POCT testing or instrumentation. This evaluation is to include both clinical and financial considerations.
  • Based upon this evaluation, the POCT Coordinator will research and recommend appropriate instrumentation for Lab Management and Pathologist approval.
  • Maintains knowledge of current regulations from all regulatory agencies, including, CLIA, The Joint Commission and CAP.
  • Prepares POCT for accreditation inspections by these agencies.
  • Evaluate new instrumentation, including accuracy, precision and linearity checks and prepare a written report for pathologist approval.
  • Meets with Manager and Pathologist at least monthly.
  • Sits on the Point of Care Committee.
  • Reviews all POCT data, including Q.C., linearity checks and patient data.
  • Ensure that all policy and procedure manuals whether electronic or hard copy are up to date.
  • Ensures that all point of care testing personnel maintain competency.
  • Monitor staff performance of POC tests through QC, patient testing in order to detect and document out of range QC, critical results, and corrective action taken.
  • Inform nurse managers of important updates through memos or attendance at Nurse Manager’s meetings.
  • Perform other duties as required or as responsibilities dictate.
  • Oversees bedside glucose monitoring, systems, downloading, printing of data and monitoring as deemed necessary by the mode of evaluation.
  • Coordinates necessary or mandated method correlations with primary testing analyzers in the laboratory at Beverly Hospital and/or at Addison Gilbert Hospital.
