About The Position

This position involves instructing a Woodwind masterclass and flute studio as a Student Hourly employee. The role requires energetic engagement with campers, ensuring a positive experience, and answering questions about attending UWSP. The instructor will also be responsible for completing hiring paperwork and trainings, following UWSP expectations, enforcing camp rules, maintaining a safe and positive camp environment, and collaborating with other staff. A key aspect of the role is acting as a role model, encouraging integrity, confidence, and teamwork, and helping to recruit future students and families. A prevention mindset for camper safety is essential, along with performing duties as assigned by the program manager and camp director. Students in this role must also complete youth policy training and pass a Criminal Background Check with Position of Trust for Vulnerable Populations and Misconduct Reference Check.

Requirements

  • Pass a Criminal Background Check with Position of Trust for Vulnerable Populations and Misconduct Reference Check.
  • Complete required Volunteers Matter training.
  • Excellent organization, communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to be flexible, adaptable and team oriented.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working with and supervising youth.
  • Possess a solid knowledge of UWSP Campus.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Possess music education instruction skills.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct a Woodwind masterclass and flute studio.
  • Engage all campers energetically and enthusiastically throughout the entire camp.
  • Ensure all campers have a positive experience and answer questions about attending UWSP.
  • Complete all required hiring paperwork and trainings.
  • Follow rules as outlined in the UWSP expectations.
  • Understand and enforce camp rules and policies.
  • Help maintain a safe and positive camp experience for all attendees.
  • Work collaboratively with other counselors and camp staff.
  • Act as a role model – encourage integrity, confidence, and teamwork.
  • Help recruit and welcome future students and families to UWSP.
  • Demonstrate a prevention mindset in keeping campers safe during camp.
  • Perform duties as assigned by program manager and camp director.
  • Complete any required trainings for youth policy.
  • Remain calm and assist campers during any potential emergency situations.
