About The Position

The Plumbing Maintenance Mechanic performs maintenance, installation and repair work on piped utility systems and fixtures and on the piping and connections of equipment under general supervision, using the tools and techniques of plumbing technology.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of formal training in a state-approved Journey Plumber program at a vocational or technical school, college, or apprenticeship sponsor organization.
  • 5 years related work experience.
  • Knowledge of plumbing techniques, codes, procedures and materials.
  • Knowledge of safety rules, procedures and practices, including the proper use of safety equipment as defined by OSHA and industry standards.
  • Ability to apply plumbing and safety knowledge.
  • Ability to safely use tools and equipment.
  • Ability to solve problems and manage information.
  • Proficient written and verbal English communication skills, at least on a high school graduate level, to interact with departmental/JHM staff.
  • Ability to identify and avoid hazards as indicated by warning labels, signage, lights and other warning devices.
  • Ability to perform work within reasonable lengths of time as measured against trade, industry or engineered standards.
  • Ability to use all types of tools and equipment normally used in the plumbing trade, including specialized equipment such as power augers and pipe threaders, powered bench and hand tools (such as drills, grinders, compressed air), as well as non-powered hand tools.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance, installation and repair work on piped utility systems and fixtures and on the piping and connections of equipment.
  • Perform work under general supervision and using the tools and techniques of plumbing technology.
