About The Position

IES Residential is seeking a passionate and experienced Plumbing Instructor to help develop the next generation of plumbing professionals. This is an exciting opportunity for an accomplished plumbing professional to share their expertise through engaging classroom instruction, hands-on training, and real-world simulations. If you have extensive residential plumbing experience, strong knowledge of plumbing codes and installation practices, and a desire to mentor others, we encourage you to apply. Previous teaching or training experience is preferred but not required.

Requirements

  • Extensive hands-on residential plumbing experience.
  • Strong knowledge of plumbing systems, installation practices, troubleshooting methods, and applicable plumbing codes.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, coaching, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to engage, motivate, and mentor students with different learning styles and experience levels.
  • Strong organization, classroom management, and time-management skills.
  • Knowledge of workplace safety standards, trade regulations, and licensing requirements.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn training-related technology and software.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as needed.
  • Ability to pass required pre-employment screenings, including background and motor vehicle record checks.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous plumbing installation, service, construction, or related field experience preferred.
  • Stand, walk, climb ladders and stairs, kneel, bend, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach, and lift throughout the workday.
  • Sit for extended periods while driving to and between job sites.
  • Work on active job sites, indoors and outdoors, including attics, crawlspaces, and confined or elevated spaces, with exposure to varying weather, construction noise, dust, and other job site conditions.
  • Wear safety gear such as Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Maintain dependable transportation and consistent, reliable attendance to meet customer service and operational needs.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make independent decisions within established company policies and procedures.
  • Communicate in person, by phone, and electronically, including on a tablet, smartphone, and other office technology.
  • Lift, carry, push, and pull at least 50 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous teaching or training experience is preferred but not required.
  • Experience in single-family and multifamily residential construction is preferred.
  • Relevant plumbing licenses or industry certifications are preferred and required when necessary to perform the position’s duties.
  • Prior teaching, coaching, or training experience is preferred but not required.
  • Spanish-speaking ability is preferred.
  • Previous instructional, training, mentoring, or supervisory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging classroom, laboratory, and hands-on instruction focused on residential plumbing systems, installation methods, safety procedures, and industry standards.
  • Teach curriculum aligned with applicable plumbing codes, company procedures, licensing requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Develop practical exercises and real-world simulations that prepare students to contribute effectively in the field.
  • Coach, mentor, and provide constructive feedback to students with varying skill and experience levels.
  • Evaluate student performance through testing, demonstrations, classroom participation, and hands-on assessments.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, training progress, certification, and program completion records.
  • Partner with division leadership and field personnel to identify training needs and coordinate on-the-job learning opportunities.
  • Create and update lesson plans, instructional materials, and specialty courses based on code changes, new technologies, and business needs.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and productive classroom, laboratory, and training environment.
  • Support employee onboarding, licensing preparation, continuing education, and workforce development initiatives.
  • Travel periodically to local divisions, training sites, and other company locations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
