This position is within the Development Center Division of the Development Services Department within the City of Oklahoma City. An eligibility list will be established or supplemented for filling future vacancies per provisions of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Collective Bargaining Agreement. This position is under the direction of the Chief Plumbing Inspector. Journeyman level skill and knowledge relevant to the plumbing field must be acquired prior to assuming the duties of this position. Essential job functions include: traveling to various construction sites to conduct ground, rough, and final plumbing inspections related to plumbing construction, installation, repair, alteration, and maintenance of plumbing apparatus and fixtures on all structures to ensure compliance with safety and quality regulations as are specified and required by the Oklahoma City Plumbing Codes. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that plumbing systems are properly installed in order to provide for the safety, health, and welfare of the general public. All plumbing inspections are performed independently with unusual problems or situations referred to the Plumbing Inspector II and/or the Chief Plumbing Inspector. The employee must exhibit tact and diplomacy in communicating with citizens, contractors, building owners or managers, and departmental personnel concerning relevant aspects of work performed. Work products are periodically reviewed at the discretion of the Plumbing Inspector II and/or Chief Plumbing Inspector.
