About The Position

Franklin County Public Health is seeking to hire an Interim Plumbing Inspector or Plumbing Inspector I/II. This role involves performing inspections, evaluations, investigations, and consultations in compliance with applicable program standards, state laws and rules, and local regulations. The position emphasizes providing excellent customer service in alignment with the mission, core values, and purposes of Franklin County Public Health. The Plumbing Inspector II position also includes certification for Plumbing plans examination and medical gas.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent
5 years of practical and verifiable installation experience in commercial plumbing
Plumbing Inspector Certificate issued from the Ohio Board of Building Standards
Valid Ohio driver's license and ability to meet insurability requirements.
Interim Plumbing Inspector: Successfully complete and pass the examination modules required by the Ohio Board of Building Standards for Plumbing Inspector within 1-year of employment.
Plumbing Inspector I: Plumbing Plans Examiner Certificate issued from the Ohio Board of Building Standards and/or ASSE 6020 Medical Gas Inspector Certification is preferred.
Plumbing Inspector II: At least 3 years’ experience as a plumbing inspector I with an Ohio Board of Building Standards Plans Examiner Certification
Plumbing Inspector II: 3-5 years’ experience as a plumbing inspector with an Ohio Board of Building Standards Plans Examiner Certification
Plumbing Inspector II: Plumbing Plans Examiner Certificate issued from the Ohio Board of Building Standards; ASSE 6020 Medical Gas Inspector Certification

Responsibilities

Inspects plumbing systems and medical gas systems to conformance with approved plans, specifications and approved engineered design.
Uses Ohio Building Codes to ensure jobsite compliance to the rules of the Ohio Board of Building Standards and to NFPA 99: Health Care Facilities Code.
Reviews blueprints and engineering drawings for compliance and provides technical advice to design professionals, contractors, owners, and operators regarding Ohio Plumbing Code and/or local regulations.
Prepares detailed reports on daily plumbing activities (inspections, investigations, evaluations, complaints) and maintains related records.
Works with other staff, sections, and departments providing environmental health plumbing knowledge in relation to plumbing code and/or communicable disease investigations.
Routine interaction with public officials, citizens, vendors, clients, patrons, and applicants to gather and process information; cooperative/coordinating responsibility with other departments.
Other related duties as assigned.
