Plumbing/Fire Protection Engineer [Wilton]
About The Position
An Engineer works with more experienced engineers to design building Plumbing/Fire Protection systems. Altieri has provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection engineering design services to architects and building owners for 65 years. Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, fire protection or architectural engineering, or similar field.
- Has EIT certification or is working towards it.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with Autodesk Revit a plus.
Responsibilities
- Learns system design calculations including: Hydraulic calculations for fire sprinkler standpipe, mains, and branch piping. Domestic Water, Sanitary, Waste, Vent, Storm, & Gas pipe sizing calculations. Domestic plumbing equipment calculations – booster, sewage & sump pumps, water heaters, air compressors, etc.
- Works with supervisor to layout fire suppression systems (piping, sprinkler heads, specialty valves, etc.), plumbing piping systems, and equipment utilizing Revit 3D software.
- Produces drawing sets, including but not limited to, drawings notes, details, and single line riser diagrams.
- Selects equipment, such as water heaters and plumbing fixtures.
- Gains understanding of different plumbing and fire protection system types.
- Conducts preliminary review of submittals and RFIs.
- Gains experience working on sustainable projects. Gains familiarity with various certifications (LEED, etc.)
- Collaborates with fellow Plumbing/Fire Protection engineers within their studio or the firm.
- Asks meaningful questions.
- Presents self in a professional manner when interacting with external stakeholders.
- Familiarizes themselves with international and local building codes. Learns energy codes. Gains knowledge of applicable design standard (ASPE, PDI, etc.) handbooks and calculations.
- Additional tasks as requested.
