About The Position

SSR is seeking a motivated Plumbing Engineer-in-Training (EIT) I to join our Plumbing Engineering team. In this role, you will assist with the design and analysis of plumbing and fire protection systems for a wide variety of facility types, including healthcare, higher education, commercial, sports, and civic projects. Working alongside experienced engineers and multidisciplinary project teams, you will contribute to the development of innovative, efficient, and code-compliant building systems while building the technical foundation necessary for professional engineering licensure.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification obtained or ability to obtain certification within six months of hire.
  • Strong interest in thermal and fluid systems and building engineering.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Nice To Haves

  • Internship, co-op, or professional experience in MEP consulting, construction, or building systems design.
  • Familiarity with Revit, AutoCAD, or other building design software.
  • Exposure to plumbing design principles, construction documents, and engineering calculations.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes and standards such as IPC, UPC, NFPA, FGI Guidelines, or ASPE standards.
  • Interest in pursuing Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the design of domestic water, sanitary waste and vent, storm drainage, fuel gas, medical gas, fire sprinkler, and specialty plumbing systems.
  • Support the development of plumbing construction documents, including drawings, specifications, and technical calculations.
  • Perform engineering calculations related to pipe sizing, fixture counts, system demand, system temperature and pressure, and equipment selection.
  • Utilize Revit, AutoCAD, and other design software to develop and coordinate building system layouts.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary coordination with mechanical, electrical, structural, architectural, and civil teams.
  • Review equipment submittents, shop drawings, and product data for compliance with project requirements.
  • Conduct site visits and field observations to survey existing conditions, verify installation progress and assist with issue resolution.
  • Support project managers with project documentation, schedules, and client deliverables.
  • Research applicable codes, standards, and regulations to ensure compliant system designs.
