About The Position

Under the direction of the Plumbing Foreman, The Plumbing Apprentice will assist skilled plumbers with the installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing systems, both industrial and commercial. The apprentice will learn all aspects of plumbing, including the use of tools, materials, and safety practices, while gaining on-the-job experience and formal education to obtain plumbing certification.

Requirements

  • Basic Knowledge of Plumbing Tools and Techniques: No prior plumbing experience is necessary, but a willingness to learn and follow instructions is important.
  • Physical Stamina and Dexterity: Ability to lift heavy materials, work in confined spaces, and handle physical tasks such as bending, kneeling, or standing for extended periods.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to follow directions, ask questions, and communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers.
  • Attention to Detail: A keen eye for detail and the ability to follow specific instructions to ensure quality work.
  • Team Player: Willingness to work closely with senior plumbers and other tradespeople on the job site.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A valid driver’s license (may be required to travel to job sites).
  • A good understanding of safety procedures and regulations.
  • Basic math skills for measurements and calculations.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with Installations and Repairs:
  • Help install and repair plumbing systems, pipes, fixtures, and water supply systems.
  • Assist with the installation of water heaters, faucets, toilets, sinks, and other plumbing fixtures.
  • Help in repairing and replacing damaged pipes and plumbing systems.
  • Maintenance of Plumbing Systems:
  • Assist with routine maintenance of plumbing systems, ensuring they are operating efficiently.
  • Help in identifying leaks, clogs, and other issues and report them to a journeyman plumber.
  • Tool Usage and Equipment Handling:
  • Learn to use various plumbing tools and equipment, such as pipe cutters, soldering torches, wrenches, and power tools.
  • Assist in maintaining and organizing plumbing tools and materials on the job site.
  • Plumbing System Troubleshooting:
  • Observe and assist in diagnosing plumbing problems.
  • Learn the process of troubleshooting and resolving issues under the supervision of experienced plumbers.
  • Blueprint Reading and Installation Codes:
  • Learn to read blueprints and understand plumbing codes and regulations.
  • Assist with interpreting and applying plumbing installation codes to ensure safety and compliance.
  • Safety and Cleanliness:
  • Adhere to all safety guidelines and protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the job site, including cleaning up work areas after completing a task.
