About The Position

The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation and Reentry (ADCRR) is seeking an experienced plumber to join their team at the Arizona State Prison Complex – Phoenix. This role involves overseeing inmate crews, maintaining tools and equipment, and performing preventative maintenance on all plumbing fixtures. The plumber will be responsible for tasks such as cleaning sewer drains, repairing plumbing fixtures, and conducting general maintenance. ADCRR is committed to enhancing public safety through modern correctional practices and fostering a safe, secure, and humane correctional system.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of general building and preventative maintenance
  • Knowledge of water heaters, water softeners, water boilers, drainage, waste systems, backflows, and plumbing tools/equipment
  • Knowledge of National and local building codes and safety practices
  • Knowledge of commercial gas lines
  • Knowledge of basic blueprints
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Google Suites to create reports, charts, and research
  • Skill in written and verbal communication
  • Skill in scheduling of maintenance repairs and preventive maintenance programs for the facility
  • Skill in time management and organizational techniques/methods
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining interpersonal and employee relationships within all organizational levels
  • Ability to lift/carry up to 50lbs
  • Ability to push/pull up to 50lbs
  • Ability to walk/run up to 0.25 miles
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, schematics, and sketches
  • Ability to remodel, install, and construct utility services
  • Ability to work in a prison environment
  • Must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license if driving is an essential function
  • Must complete all required driver training and pass driver license record checks if driving is an essential function
  • Must maintain acceptable driving records if driving is an essential function
  • Must maintain statutorily required liability insurance if operating a personally owned vehicle on state business
  • Must take a Tuberculosis (TB) test during New Employee Orientation and every year thereafter
  • Must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify)

  • One (1) year of journeyman-level plumbing experience

Responsibilities

  • Cleans small and large sewer drains along with repairing toilets, sink, faucets, water heaters, and boilers
  • Installs plumbing fixtures, plumbing drains, and water lines
  • Conducts general maintenance as instructed by supervisors
  • Drives on State business
  • Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment
