About The Position

Under the guidance and supervision of the Hotel’s Engineering Management, operates, maintains and repairs all aspects of the Hotel’s Water reticulation systems, Kitchen and Laundry equipment, Pumping systems, Water and Sewage treatment plants, Gas equipment and Boilers. The role involves providing support services to Engineering Managers, attending to repairs and maintenance of various systems including boilers, sanitary fixtures, laundry and kitchen equipment, hot and cold water systems, cooling water systems, storm and sanitary sewer systems, and spa and swimming pool systems. It also includes performing general and emergency repairs, maintenance to plant and equipment, and repairs to the Hotel’s steam reticulation system. Regular inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs to bathroom/toilet fixtures are key responsibilities. The role also entails cleaning storm water drains, clearing wastewater pipe blockages, assisting with the Fire Protection Preventative Maintenance Program, and performing repairs to natural or LPG gas appliances. Ensuring environmental protection and adherence to workplace health and safety requirements are crucial. The position involves liaising with and supervising contractors, becoming familiar with emergency procedures, and ensuring maintenance requests are handled promptly. Operating the Hotel’s Building Automation system and performing equipment repairs as per manufacturer recommendations are also part of the duties. Additionally, the role includes participating in the Hotel’s Energy conservation program and performing repairs and maintenance to the physical building structure. Administrative functions involve reviewing daily logbooks, ensuring safety features operate efficiently, keeping records, monitoring water management systems, maintaining workshop tools and equipment, managing stock and materials, and raising purchase orders. Customer service involves interacting courteously with guests and staff, and attending to their requests or complaints.

Requirements

  • High school or equivalent education required.
  • Minimum of two years hands-on experience on plumbing system in the facility maintenance or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a support service to the Engineering Managers to assist in meeting the strategic goals of the department.
  • Attends to repairs and maintenance of all systems and related equipment including but not limited to boilers, sanitary fixtures, laundry equipment, kitchen equipment, hot and cold water systems, cooling water systems, storm and sanitary sewer systems, spa and swimming pool systems.
  • Attend to replacement or new construction projects, which may include galvanized iron, PVC and cast iron piping including fabrication of necessary bracket supports.
  • Perform general and emergency repairs and maintenance to all plant and equipment based on skill and experience level.
  • Perform repairs and maintenance to Hotel’s steam reticulation system.
  • Carry out regular inspections of plant and equipment as per the daily checklist and ensure that inspections required by Government authorities are conducted and documented.
  • Carry out preventative maintenance inspections as per computerized system.
  • Attends to repairs or replacement of all bathroom / toilet fixtures throughout hotel.
  • Cleans all storm water drains including building gutters to ensure blockages do not occur.
  • Attend to all waste water pipe work blockages using appropriate mechanical equipment to clear.
  • Perform and assist with the Fire Protection Preventative Maintenance Program ensuring all items are inspected as per weekly schedule.
  • Repairs to natural or LPG gas appliances as required.
  • Ensure proper measures are taken to protect the environment and the Hotel’s adherence to it.
  • Liaise and supervise Property Maintenance Plumbing or Kitchen Contractors on site and ensure appropriate standards are met.
  • Becomes thoroughly familiar with Hotel’s emergency procedures and perform assigned duties per Complex and departmental procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with legislated workplace health and safety requirements
  • Ensure all requests for maintenance are carried out within an acceptable time frame.
  • Assist all engineering associates with maintenance and repairs when required.
  • Become familiar and operate the Hotel’s Building Automation system.
  • Perform equipment repairs as per manufactures recommendations.
  • Participates as a pro-active team member in the Hotel’s Energy conservation program by making appropriate recommendations to Engineering supervisors on energy conservation improvements.
  • Repairs and maintenance to the physical building structure including minor installation work as and when required.
  • Liaise with engineering associates in their daily activities and assigned projects as directed by the engineering managers.
  • Perform all assigned tasks to ensure the works have been completed in a reasonable time frame and to a standard pertaining to the complex and as set by the Engineering management.
  • Review daily log book, rectify or follow up on all items left unsolved from any previous shifts in relation to plumbing systems, discuss the same with the Engineering managers.
  • Ensure Fire and Engineering safety features operate at peak efficiency.
  • Ensure proper records are kept relating to all plant and equipment for the hotel.
  • Monitor water management systems to minimize wastage and costs using daily / weekly utility meter readings as a reference point.
  • Maintain all workshop tools and equipment for the running of plumber’s workshop’s trades and functions.
  • Ensure that plumbing workshops have adequate stock and materials in Stores and that all workshops are kept in a clean and safe environment.
  • Raise purchase orders as required.
  • Interact in courteous and professional manner with guests and hotel staff with whom employee comes into contact.
  • Attend to guests' requests or complaints when possible and appropriate; when inappropriate inform supervisor or appropriate person of request and follow up to ensure it was resolved.
  • Assist with related duties and special projects as requested.
  • Attending training sessions set out by the Westin Resort to ensure continued personal development.
