About The Position

Under the supervision of the University Hospitals Trust (UHT) the Plumber Level 1 is responsible for the installation, maintenance, inspection, and repair of plumbing systems that support patient care, staff operations, and facility safety. This role requires a working knowledge of healthcare plumbing systems and applicable codes and regulations, as well as the ability to work reliably and efficiently in a clinical environment. This position requires maintaining a mindset and supporting the culture of continuous quality improvement.

Requirements

  • Valid State Plumbing License required
  • Ability to effectively use communication devices (two-way radios), tablets (iPad) and computer systems
  • Minimum 3-5 years of plumbing experience, preferably in a hospital, clinic or healthcare facility
  • Strong knowledge of water, drainage, steam, and gas plumbing systems
  • Strong knowledge of plumbing codes, materials, tools, and safety procedures
  • Experience with soldering, welding, pipefitting, and leak detection
  • Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) for tracking work orders
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks such as crawling, climbing ladders, and working in confined spaces
  • Comfortable working in a clinical setting where sanitation and infection control are critical
  • Ability to prioritize and complete work orders based on urgency and patient care impact
  • Must maintain tools and equipment in good working condition

Nice To Haves

  • Medical Gas Certification (NFPA 99) preferred
  • Backflow Prevention Certification preferred
  • OSHA 10 or 30 Certification preferred
  • First Aid/CPR Certification is a plus
  • Prior experience in a hospital or healthcare facility strongly preferred
  • Backflow prevention knowledge is an asset
  • Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and time management skills
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills to coordinate with facility staff
  • Ability to work independently and respond quickly to urgent plumbing issues
  • Attention to detail to ensure compliance with strict healthcare plumbing standards

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine inspections and preventative maintenance on plumbing systems, fixtures, and related equipment
  • Executes scheduled preventative maintenance programs to ensure optimal equipment performance and longevity
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs water supply lines, drainage systems and plumbing fixtures
  • Troubleshoots and resolves issues including but not limited to leaks, clogs, low water pressure, and faulty fixtures
  • Installs, replaces, and upgrades plumbing systems, including pipe, valves, sinks, toilets, water heaters, and backflow preventers
  • Repairs and maintains restrooms, sinks, water fountains, and emergency eye-wash stations
  • Performs routine backflow prevention testing to protect water supply integrity
  • Adheres to infection control standards, OSHA regulations, NFPA codes
  • Prioritizes and completes work orders based on urgency and patient care impact
  • Responds promptly to emergency plumbing calls to minimize downtime and prevent service disruption to patient care operations
  • Utilizes the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to document work orders, maintenance records, and parts usage
