About The Position

Plumber installs, repairs, and maintains water, gas, and drainage systems, ensuring compliance with strict Chicago Plumbing Code regulations. They work on pipes, fixtures, and appliances in residential or commercial settings, requiring skills in blueprint reading, pipe bending, threading, and troubleshooting, often involving heavy lifting and working in confined spaces.

Requirements

• Typically requires a valid Journey-level plumber license for city positions.
• Proficiency in working with various materials (PVC, PEX, Copper, Iron) and tools.
• Often requires 3+ years of experience in residential or service plumbing.
• Ability to lift over 50 pounds, climb, and work in tight or dangerous environments.
• Strong ability to diagnose plumbing issues quickly.
• Good verbal skills to interact with clients and other tradespeople.
• Capability to read technical drawings and specifications.

Responsibilities

• Assemble, install, and repair pipes, fittings, and fixtures (toilets, sinks, water heaters) according to specifications.
• Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on residential plumbing systems.
• Clear obstructions, clean drain pipes, and repair broken water mains or sewer lines.

• Utilize work order systems to document repairs, maintenance, and material usage.
