About The Position

The Plumber Technician installs, maintains, and repairs plumbing systems, ensuring compliance with codes and safety regulations. This role involves diagnosing and resolving issues, performing system testing, and providing customer service. The position requires technical knowledge of plumbing systems, physical stamina, and strong problem-solving skills. A high school diploma or GED is the minimum baseline, with formal apprenticeship or vocational training and state licensing often required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Deep understanding of water distribution, drainage, and venting systems.
  • Proficiency with hand and power tools (pipe cutters, wrenches, snakes, etc.).
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, lift heavy materials, and stand or kneel for extended periods.
  • Strong diagnostic skills to identify the root cause of complex plumbing failures quickly.
  • Completion of a formal apprenticeship or vocational training.
  • State Journeyman or Master Plumber license (often required for senior roles).

Responsibilities

  • Read blueprints and drawings to determine the layout of plumbing systems, water supply networks, and waste/vent systems.
  • Install pipes, assemblies, and fittings.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues such as leaks, clogs, or broken pipes.
  • Replace or repair steam, water, or gas systems and related equipment like water heaters and pumps.
  • Use pressure gauges and other tools to detect leaks and ensure systems meet safety and quality standards.
  • Ensure all work is performed according to local plumbing codes and safety regulations.
  • Provide cost estimates to clients, explain repairs, and maintain a professional demeanor while working on-site.
  • Unclogging high-pressure sewer lines using hydro-jetting equipment.
  • Install and certify backflow prevention devices.
  • Solder copper piping or join PEX and PVC lines.
  • Repair or replace commercial-grade water heaters and boilers.
  • Maintain knowledge of diversity-related issues, legislation, and best practices.
