About The Position

Under direct supervision of the job site superintendent or other designated individual, the Plumber 1 (L1) is an entry-level plumber position within the Commercial Plumbing Division. The incumbent may also be responsible for performing the duties of a helper, i.e. cleaning and preparing the job site, loading and delivering materials, and using a variety of hand tools and machinery, both manual and electric. The Plumber 1 (L1) must have at least 4 years of plumbing experience and able to demonstrate proficiency as a Commercial Plumbing Plumber 1. The Plumber 1 (L1) must be able to read plumbing and architectural plans and assemble a materials list. The Plumber 1 (L1) must also be able to install underground and aboveground DWV/Domestic Water piping systems. The Plumber 1 (L1) must also be able to lead/train other employees such as helpers and apprentices. The Plumber 1 (L1) works directly for the superintendent on the job but will work in conjunction with and take direction from the Plumber 2 on the job. The Plumber 1 (L1) may be called upon to encumber the duties of a helper/apprentice to unload materials, layout tools and materials, pick-up a job site, and hand dig ditches. The incumbent should have their own hand tools of the trade and is responsible for up-keep of their own tools.

Requirements

At least 18 years of age.
4 years of verifiable experience working as a plumber.
Successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening test and agree to comply with all company policies including the company's drug-free workplace policy.
Able to lift up to 50 pounds and able to push/pull up to 75 pounds.
Excellent communication skills.
Able to follow directives.
Knowledge of basic hand tools, both manual and electrical.
OSHA competent.

Responsibilities

Follow written and verbal directives from a supervisor.
Clean and prepare the job site.
Load and deliver materials.
Use a variety of hand tools and machinery, both manual and electric.
Read and interpret plumbing and architectural plans.
Assemble a materials list.
Install underground and aboveground DWV/Domestic Water piping systems.
Lead and train other employees such as helpers and apprentices.
Perform physical labor as directed by superintendent or another designated individual.
Locate possible utilities that are known/unknown within the excavation site.
Properly grade a ditch line for sewer, storm, or domestic water.
Properly install below grade piping systems (PVC Sewer, PVC Storm, Service Weight Cast Iron Storm/Sewer, Mechanical Joint Domestic Water, Solvent Weld PVC or CPVC, Copper Soldered or Brazed).
Operate hand tools such as shovels and tamps, as well as small power-operated compaction machines.
Backfill and compact earth materials in the excavation after plumbing piping has been installed.
Properly install above grade piping systems (PVC Drain, Waste and Vent, PVC Storm, No-Hub Cast Iron Drain, Waste and Vent, No-Hub Cast Iron Storm, CPVC Solvent Weld, Copper Sweat or Pro-Press).
Operate cutting tools, such as core drill machines, saws, drills and hole hawgs for penetrations through footers, floors, ceilings, and walls.
Operate drilling tools and hand-held tools for mounting supports for any above grade piping horizontal or vertical.
Operate a caulk gun for fire penetrations and finished fixtures.
Properly install fixtures (all variations of floor mounted and wall hung water closets, urinals, lavatories, counter-top sinks, tub/shower units, wall hung/floor mounted water coolers, janitorial service sinks, residential and commercial dishwashers).
Properly install equipment (all sizes of residential and small commercial water heaters, floor drains, floor clean-outs, floor sinks above and below grade, water closet carriers, lavatory carriers, urinal carriers, commercial ice makers, air compressors).
Provide the supervisor a detailed list of materials needed daily and as much as up to a week in advance.
Unload materials, layout tools and materials, pick-up a job site, and hand dig ditches.
Maintain own hand tools of the trade.
