About The Position

This is a position at Piedmont Correctional Institution located in Salisbury, N.C. (Rowan County), which is a Medium male prison facility housing 800 inmates. Position performs journey duties in the installation, maintenance, and repair of air, gas, water, and waste disposal systems. Routine work assignments are in the nature of location of needed repair, and assignments involving work of special or unusual nature are accompanied by specific instructions. This position will report to Facility Maintenance Supervisor.

Requirements

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience in the repair, replacement or construction of piping systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Based on the nature of work performed, may require appropriate licensure by the governing board or commission.

Responsibilities

Install, maintain, and repair water, gas, air, and waste disposal systems.
Diagnose plumbing issues, locate leaks or malfunctions, and perform necessary repairs efficiently.
Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and building codes to plan and complete installations.
Perform routine and preventive maintenance on pipes, fixtures, valves, and related equipment.
Ensure all work complies with local plumbing codes, safety regulations, and standards.
Operate plumbing tools and equipment safely, including pipe cutters, threading machines, and testing devices.
Maintain records of work performed, materials used, and repairs completed.
Coordinate with supervisors on unusual or complex issues.
May guide or assist offenders on routine tasks.
