About The Position

This position provides essential support for campus operations by maintaining and repairing plumbing systems to ensure a safe, clean, and functional living and learning environment. The role requires advanced technical expertise to install, troubleshoot, and repair plumbing systems in accordance with national and state codes, while delivering responsive and customer-focused service.

Requirements

  • Licensed as a plumber in the State of Florida
  • 2 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6).
  • Valid Class E driver’s license.
  • Must be authorized to work for any U.S. employer.
  • Must reside in Florida as of the date the employment begins.

Nice To Haves

  • Journeyman or Master Plumber license or equivalent certification.
  • Extensive experience in commercial or institutional plumbing systems, preferably in a university, healthcare, or large campus environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of national and state plumbing codes and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Experience with preventive and predictive maintenance programs (PM/PDM) in facilities operations.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting complex plumbing systems, including water, gas, and sewer infrastructure.
  • Experience with backflow prevention systems and certifications in testing and repair.
  • Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) for work order tracking and documentation.
  • Experience supporting capital improvement or facilities upgrade projects.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical diagrams.
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and customer service skills in a service-oriented environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive (PM) and predictive (PDM) maintenance to identify and prevent system failures
  • Conduct PM repairs (PMR) and corrective repairs to restore functionality in response to service requests.
  • Install, maintain, test, and calibrate plumbing systems supporting water, gas, air, and sewer operations in bathrooms, laboratories, and kitchens.
  • Troubleshoot and repair pumps, valves, faucets, traps, pipes, water heaters, emergency showers, and related components.
  • Diagnose and resolve sewage system issues using camera inspection equipment.
  • Maintain, install, and repair backflow prevention systems and perform emergency plumbing repairs as needed.
  • Complete work orders accurately and in a timely manner, including documentation of labor, materials, and trade notes.
  • Report maintenance concerns, deficiencies, and safety issues to the supervisor.
  • Assist central shops, contractors, and other departments with routine, project, and event-related work.
  • Support Facilities Improvement and Capital Improvement projects and participate in system upgrades.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to schedule utility shutdowns or area closures when required.
  • Participate in on-call rotations as assigned.
