About The Position

As a Plumber I, you'll start your career in commercial plumbing by assisting experienced plumbers with basic maintenance, inspections, repairs, and installations in office buildings, hospitals, schools, retail spaces, and industrial facilities. Under close supervision, you'll gain hands-on experience with entry-level tasks while learning to deliver safe, reliable, and efficient plumbing solutions that support sustainable facility operations. Requirements

  • 0–3 years in plumbing, mechanical, facilities maintenance, construction, or related trade field; no prior commercial plumbing experience required—strong mechanical aptitude, eagerness to learn, and positive attitude essential.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record required.
  • Basic plumbing/mechanical aptitude and tool familiarity (pipe wrenches, cutters, torches, drain snakes, hand tools).
  • Safety awareness, attention to detail, and willingness to follow instructions and learn quickly.
  • Customer service orientation, clear communication, and teamwork.
  • Basic documentation (work orders, photos, notes) and smartphone/tablet proficiency for digital reporting.
  • Ability to pass background/drug screening and maintain clean driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • Trade school, vocational training, or plumbing certificate a plus (will be supported through company-sponsored programs).
  • Backflow prevention certification (or willingness to obtain) a plus.
  • OSHA 10-hour certification encouraged (company support provided).

Responsibilities

  • Assist senior plumbers with preventive maintenance, inspections, flushing, cleaning drains/fixtures, replacing washers/seals/gaskets, and lubricating components on commercial plumbing systems (domestic water, drainage, hydronic heating/cooling, backflow devices).
  • Support troubleshooting and repairs under direct guidance, including clearing minor clogs, tightening fittings, replacing basic fixtures (faucets, toilets, urinals), and assisting with pipe repairs or rerouting.
  • Perform general service call support: prepare tools/parts, document findings, take photos, and complete basic work order entries.
  • Help maintain clean, organized work areas, vehicles, and tools; load/unload equipment and materials as needed.
  • Participate fully in daily safety briefings, job hazard analyses, toolbox talks, and follow all safety protocols and PPE requirements.
  • Actively learn commercial plumbing systems, codes (IPC/UPC), backflow principles, and best practices through on-the-job training, ride-alongs, and assigned coursework.
  • Communicate professionally with customers and team members, reporting observations and asking questions to build knowledge.
