PLD Diagnostic Assessor, Tutoring and Support

About The Position

Diagnostic assessors will conduct a fine-grained analysis of written assignments from both first- and second-year design courses and create a linguistic profile for the student that identifies potential areas for improvement in engineering communication. Assessors will then tutor and support students individually in their development of professional language and engineering communication.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in an appropriate discipline (such as, but not limited to, Applied Linguistics, Communication, Writing Studies, English, Engineering, Education, Rhetoric and Composition)
  • Strong writing and oral communication skills
  • Flexible availability is a requirement for these positions.
  • TESL certification is required for this position

Nice To Haves

  • PhD in Education, Applied Linguistics, Rhetoric and Composition or appropriate discipline as mentioned above
  • Familiarity with post-secondary multilingual education practices
  • Experience as a diagnostic assessor of engineering communication
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching communication and working with multilingual students

Responsibilities

  • Meet with Professional Language Development (PLD) Coordinator and team of assessors for benchmarking sessions
  • Perform diagnostic assessments of individual written assignments
  • Record and report assessment results in a timely manner
  • Provide individual and group support to students with a demonstrated PLD need
  • Document and report support to PLD Coordinator.
  • Must have the ability to move online if required.
