About The Position

This role is responsible for ensuring the proper operation of equipment through scheduled preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems. The PLC Specialist/Maintenance Technician will also program, modify, and maintain PLCs, HMIs, sensors, and automated control systems. Key responsibilities include conducting machine calibrations, tooling changes, equipment setup, and process adjustments, as well as managing the repair and calibration of tools and measurement devices. The position involves installing, testing, and commissioning new equipment and automation systems, maintaining control and traceability of tooling, and communicating machine updates and repair timeframes to production leads or supervisors. The role also requires active participation in building a collaborative team environment, supporting continuous improvement, lean manufacturing, and downtime reduction initiatives, and contacting vendors for support. Additionally, the technician will perform installations of optical equipment, interpret engineering schematics, maintain OSHA safety standards, assist with building maintenance, and keep accurate maintenance records.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED required.
Minimum of 3-5 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing, industrial, automated production, or laboratory environment.
Hands-on experience troubleshooting and repairing mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and automated equipment.
Experience programming, troubleshooting, and maintaining PLC systems such as Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Mitsubishi, or equivalent.
Working knowledge of HMI systems, VFDs, motors, sensors, servo drives, and industrial control systems.
Experience performing preventive and predictive maintenance activities.
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, blueprints, and technical manuals.
Proficiency using diagnostic tools, testing equipment, and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and work in a manufacturing environment that may require standing, bending, climbing, and reaching for extended periods.
Basic Math.

Nice To Haves

Associate Degree or Technical Certification in Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, Electrical Technology, Automation, or a related field preferred.
Forklift and scissor lift operations licensed and able to perform safely-preferred.
PLC programming and automation certifications.
Experience with machine calibration, tooling changes, and equipment setup.
Knowledge of robotic systems, vision systems, and industrial networking.
Experience supporting lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, or Six Sigma initiatives.
Welding, fabrication, and machining experience.
Familiarity with FDA, ISO, GMP, or other regulated manufacturing environments.

Knowledge of electrical systems, motor controls, drives, sensors, relays, and industrial automation equipment.
Knowledge of pneumatic, hydraulic, mechanical, and electromechanical systems.
Knowledge of machine calibration, tooling changes, equipment setup, and production changeovers.
Knowledge of industrial safety standards, lockout/tagout (LOTO), electrical safety, and OSHA regulations.
Understanding of manufacturing processes, continuous improvement methodologies, and lean manufacturing principles.
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, P&IDs, technical manuals, and mechanical drawings.
Knowledge of CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) and maintained documentation practices.
Strong troubleshooting and diagnostics skills for automated production equipment and manufacturing systems.
Proficiency in PLC programming, debugging, and system modifications.
Skilled in the use of electrical testing equipment, including multimeters, oscilloscopes, and other diagnostic tools.
Ability to perform machine repairs, component replacement, calibration, and preventive maintenance activities.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify root causes and implement long-term corrective actions.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Strong organization and time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications and maintenance management software.
Knowledge of safety equipment and practices related to the work, including the handling of hazardous chemicals and lock-out/tag-out procedures.

Responsibilities

Ensures proper operation of equipment by performing scheduled preventative maintenance.
Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
Program, modify, and maintain PLCs, HMIs, sensors, and automated control systems.
Monitors and completes all required maintenance tasks within a specified timeframe.
Conduct machine calibrations, tooling changes, equipment setup, and process adjustments.
Manages the repair and calibration of key tools and measurement devices inclusive of general calibration.
Keeps inventory by entering in part information into the CMMS.
Install, test, and commission new equipment and automation systems.
Maintains control and traceability related to tooling inside the shop and outside vendors.
Communicates to production to leads or supervisor machine updates and machine status and timeframe for repairs.
Actively participates in building a collaborative and productive team environment.
Support continuous improvement, lean manufacturing, and downtime reduction initiatives.
Contacts vendors for support with machine repairs and diagnostics.
Performs installation of all types of optical equipment and works with engineers as needed.
Interprets engineering schematics and procedures used during machine diagnostics.
Maintains an OSHA safety standard.
Assists with building maintenance as needed.
Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation.
