PLC / Automation Designer
About The Position
AtomTech is seeking a motivated and hands-on Mid-Level PLC / Automation Designer to develop, program and commission automation systems for the automotive, logistics and defense industries! This role involves designing, programming, and commissioning PLC and controls systems from scratch through production handoff, troubleshooting complex automation, and ensuring budgets and schedules are met. The position requires working in automotive manufacturing and launch environments, with flexibility for nights, weekends, and extended hours during launches. Effective communication with internal teams and customers is critical.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years direct working experience
- Strong Siemens experience
- Working knowledge of Safety PLC Systems and Safety Standards
- Working knowledge of communication networks (Ethernet IP, IOLink, ProfiNET)
- Direct experience with robot integration and understanding of robot programming
- Direct experience with motion control and vision applications
- Direct experience with safety circuit design
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Reliable transportation
- Willingness and ability to travel as required
- Flexible schedule availability (including overtime and weekends as needed)
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment
- Positive attitude and strong work ethic
- Eagerness to learn and develop new technical skills
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without the need for current or future employer sponsorship.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, occasional handling of loads up to 100 lbs
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work on equipment for extended periods
- Comfortable working in warehouse, manufacturing and industrial environments with noise, dust, temperature changes and uneven surfaces
- Full manual dexterity for tool and equipment operation; ability to work in tight or elevated spaces
- Must be able to successfully pass an 11-panel pre-hire drug screening
- Must be 18+
Nice To Haves
- SCADA experience is preferred.
- Familiarity with C/C++/C#, Python
- Experience deploying AMR and AGV platforms
- Ability to work well under pressure in a constantly changing environment
- Ability to motivate fellow team members in a positive manner
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, disciplined approach to work
Responsibilities
- Design, program, and commission PLC and controls systems from scratch through production handoff
- Program Siemens and Allen Bradley PLCs and HMIs, and various SCADA systems
- Troubleshoot complex automation
- Develop efficient means and standards to ensure budgets and schedules are met
- Validate system safeties function as designed
- Conduct Factory and Site Acceptance Testing
- Assist with feedback and project improvements
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures
- Maintain clean and organized workspaces on job sites and in-house
- Work primarily in automotive manufacturing and launch environments
- Travel and off-shift support required during system startups and launches
- Communicate effectively with internal teams and customers
- Provide clear updates regarding job status, delays or technical concerns
- Participate in team meetings and training sessions
- Maintain professionalism in all customer-facing interactions
