About The Position

The Playroom Associates are zealous about cultivating a quality childcare program for the members of Altea Active and our community. They create a clean, safe, and nurturing environment for children ranging from six weeks of age to 12 years old that address each child's unique needs, while effectively communicating with parents. They have a passion for being creative by developing play-based, age-appropriate activities while ensuring overall health, safety, and the well-being of all children in their care. These nurturing folks take pride in creating relationships with parents and children while being mindful and respectful of individual differences. They offer a positive, welcoming environment that delivers fun, enriching and socially engaging activities that stimulate children. These problem solvers, plan and carry out experiences that foster an understanding of a variety of cultures and value systems. They lead daily activities in harmony with the centre’s philosophy. They observe child interactions in order to expand play and plan activities. They ensure guidance of children’s behaviour that encourages positive guidelines such as redirecting, positive language and positive reinforcement.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary relating to early childhood education, child development, elementary education, or special education and additional certifications
  • Experience working with children from six weeks old to 12 years old is required
  • All team members must have current CPR/First Aid certification prior to start date and must be maintained throughout employment
  • A recent Criminal Background Check (Vulnerable Sector) prior to commencement of training and/or work.

Responsibilities

  • Meeting and greeting a tonne of familiar and unfamiliar faces
  • Answering the telephone promptly with an energetic tone of voice
  • Process registration and check-ins including processing payment using the software system
  • Plan, carry out, and assess developmentally appropriate activities and experiences in harmony with the centre’s philosophy
  • Observe how children use materials and interact with each other and adults
  • Use observations to expand play and plan activities that recognize individual difference
  • Set up crafts at the table for one group of children, set up another group with reading books and others with music.
  • Ensure the child’s environment is healthy and safe
  • Communicate positively and build trust with parents
