About The Position

The Playground Monitor is responsible for ensuring the safety and welfare of students during recess, both outdoors and indoors if weather conditions do not permit outdoor recess. This role involves communicating school policies, intervening in potential conflicts, supervising students, reporting incidents, and responding to emergencies according to the district's crisis plan. The position requires maintaining a safe environment, reporting concerns about student behavior, and adhering to legal requirements regarding suspected child abuse. The monitor also participates in staff meetings, professional growth opportunities, and other assigned duties by the Principal. A Student Monitor License through the Ohio Department of Education is required.

Requirements

  • High School diploma
  • Documentation of a clear criminal record with evidence from BCII and FBI
  • Self-directed and able to learn quickly
  • Ability to manage students in a fast-paced environment
  • Professional tact, diplomacy and presentation
  • Conscientious and assumes responsibility for own work performance
  • Knowledge of Basic math
  • Ability to read and follow instructions
  • Ability to understand written and oral instructions
  • Possess knowledge of security and emergency procedures
  • Ability to schedule activities, and collate data
  • Ability to work with others, solve problems and work as part of a team
  • Serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings.

Responsibilities

  • Communicates school policies and enforcement procedures to students during recess.
  • Intervenes in potential conflicts to minimize disruptions and prevent injury.
  • Supervises students by moving around the playground to ensure coverage.
  • Reports incidents to appropriate personnel and assists with follow-up.
  • Understands and uses the district crisis plan protocol to respond to emergencies.
  • Takes precautions to ensure staff/student safety and reports concerns about student behavior to an administrator.
  • Reports evidence of suspected child abuse as required by law.
  • Maintains the confidentiality of privileged information.
  • Participates in staff meetings and professional growth opportunities as directed.
  • Accepts responsibility for decisions and conduct.
  • Wears appropriate work attire and maintains a neat appearance.
  • Performs other duties related to the monitor's position as assigned by the Principal.
  • Obtains a Student Monitor License through the Ohio Department of Education.
