Platform Engineer, Support - 9 Month Contract
About The Position
Woodbine Entertainment Group, with a rich history in horseracing, is seeking a Platform Engineer, Support for a 9-month contract position to cover a maternity leave. This role is crucial for providing technical assistance, troubleshooting, and maintenance for applications and their associated databases. The position involves designing and developing IT systems, improving existing ETL processes, developing alert mechanisms for fraud prevention, and optimizing databases and software. The role also includes preventive maintenance, monitoring of IT systems, conducting troubleshooting, and performing QA to enhance system reliability. Additionally, the engineer will be responsible for documenting workflows, creating policies, collecting and analyzing data for improvements, and generating reports for management. Collaboration with stakeholders, user support, and leveraging DevOps practices for innovation and automation are key aspects of this role.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, IT, Business Administration or related field
- Prior experience as a programmer or systems analyst
- Proficiency in Operating Systems and Databases: Solid understanding and experience working with various operating systems (Windows, Linux, Unix, etc.), databases (MS SQL, MySQL, Data Bricks, Fabric, etc.) and programming languages (.net, python)
- Familiarity with Application and Database Support: Prior experience or knowledge of supporting and troubleshooting applications and databases, understanding software development lifecycles, and familiarity with ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) principles
- Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving Skills: Diagnosing root causes, identifying discrepancies, and applying preventive measures under pressure and complexity
Nice To Haves
- Certification(s): Database Administrator Associate, Azure Data Fundamentals, Fabric Analytics, Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate, Dynamics 365: Finance and Operations Apps Developer Associate, GitHub fundamentals or other relevant vendor-specific certifications are an asset
- Other certifications: Certified AWS, AZURE, GCP, OCI
Responsibilities
- Design and develop IT systems, including backend processes and ETL workflows using SQL stored procedure scripts.
- Improve existing ETL systems, develop alert mechanisms to prevent fraud, and optimize databases and software.
- Integrate data from different sources, ensuring data consistency and accuracy.
- Review, monitor, and maintain IT systems, including ETL jobs, applications, loyalty databases, and APIs.
- Conduct preventive maintenance, schedule server reboots, and test performance and customer experience for internal applications.
- Perform troubleshooting for existing IT systems and perform QA to enhance system reliability.
- Document new workflows for IT infrastructure, applications, database changes, discrepancies, and resolutions.
- Create policies/procedures and maintain a knowledge base.
- Collect and analyze data to improve IT infrastructure, applications, and databases.
- Generate and present periodic reports and dashboards to management.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to discuss technical issues and advise on improvements.
- Provide user support for application and database issues, communicate system-related problems clearly, and coordinate development and operational efforts.
- Develop JavaScript API automation code to enhance testing efficiency.
- Leverage DevOps practices to improve overall system quality.
- Update internal website front-end features and promote process automation and enhancement.
