Platform Engineer III

Cedar

About The Position

Cedar is hiring an engineer for its Platform Testing team, which builds tooling, frameworks, and standards to help Cedar engineering teams test effectively. The role focuses on improving the speed and reliability of a large test suite, shaping testing for services as the architecture evolves, and identifying significant testing risks. The engineer writes production-quality code, owns defined problems independently, and partners with senior engineers on broader direction. The role is remote across the United States. The engineer will build testing-quality metrics and tooling, establish code-coverage measurement, improve service-to-service testing, and integrate testing capabilities into CI/CD and developer workflows. The role also involves improving testing frameworks, documentation, and standards; connecting tests to product behavior and feature specifications; and owning projects from investigation through adoption while measuring their impact.

Requirements

  • 4–7 years in software engineering, or experience as an SDET with substantial software development responsibilities.
  • Proficiency in Python and JavaScript/TypeScript.
  • Deep knowledge of testing strategies from unit through end-to-end, with hands-on experience using frameworks such as pytest, Jest, Vitest, Cypress, or Playwright.
  • Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines, including collecting and reporting test results.
  • Experience measuring test suites through metrics such as coverage, reliability, execution time, or flakiness.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally to improve processes and bring in the right people when broader input is needed.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, including turning testing strategy into clear standards and documentation.
  • Comfort working independently once a problem is defined, and genuine curiosity about how software fails.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with service-to-service or contract testing (e.g., Pact, Testcontainers), especially during an architecture migration.
  • Experience building a test framework from scratch.
  • Experience on a platform, developer productivity, or internal tooling team, ideally within a product engineering organization.
  • Experience building AI-assisted testing tools or testing LLM-powered applications.
  • Familiarity with Go or Kotlin, or eagerness to learn new languages.

Responsibilities

  • Build tooling and metrics that make test quality visible, including reliability, flakiness, and coupling.
  • Establish code-coverage measurement and help teams close gaps in the highest-risk areas.
  • Improve service-to-service testing as the architecture becomes more distributed.
  • Integrate testing capabilities into CI/CD and developer workflows with Platform engineers.
  • Improve testing frameworks, documentation, and standards to make effective testing easier.
  • Help connect tests to product behavior and feature specifications.
  • Own projects end to end, from investigation to adoption, and measure their impact on quality.

Benefits

  • Equity eligibility for this role.
  • Competitive benefits and wellness package.
  • Flexibility to work from home or in the office, depending on what works best for the employee.
  • Unlimited PTO for exempt employees, including vacation, sick, and mental health days; employees are encouraged to take at least 20 vacation days per year.
  • 16 weeks of paid parental leave with health benefits for all parents, plus flexible re-entry schedules.
  • Diversity initiatives and employee resource groups.
  • Health benefits, including fertility and adoption assistance, starting on the first of the month following the start date, or on the start date if it coincides with the first of the month.
  • 100% match on 401(k) contributions, up to 3% of annual compensation.
  • Hands-on mentorship, employee and management coaching, and a team discretionary budget for learning and development resources.
