About The Position

Airbus U.S. is looking for an enthusiastic and creative Platform Avionics Director to design, analyze, and test new satellite and aerospace systems. We're looking for candidates who can bring exceptional engineering skills and strong leadership in aerospace programs to the team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in STEM (Science, Technical, Engineering, Math) or related scientific areas.
  • A minimum of 25 years with a Bachelor's degree, or 20 years with a Master's degree.
  • Proven track-record of working with aerospace HW and SW, starting from conceptual designs and tradeoffs through detailed design, development, manufacture, integration, test, deployment, and operations.
  • Proven track-record of managing people and multiple multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Proficiency with the overall satellite system development process along with specific knowledge of the software development processes and techniques.
  • Software architecture and development experience, including leadership of software teams across multiple parallel programs.
  • Expertise in elements of space mission designs and architectures– including satellite systems, flight operations, mission CONOPS, user interfaces, etc.
  • Communicate in a clear and concise manner effectively across multiple levels.
  • Be team-minded and ready to work in a multi-functional and multi-cultural, fast-moving and complex/technical environment.
  • Flexible attitude and strong initiative.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results.
  • US Citizenship.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Government security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree in STEM (Science, Technical, Engineering, Math) or related scientific areas.
  • Active DoD security clearance at Secret or above highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Leading the Platform Avionics Department, involved in the full lifecycle of development, from requirements definition, design, qualification, verification and operations.
  • Provide autonomous solutions of complex problems, through direct work and delegation, under the leadership of the Chief Technology Officer.
  • Have project and subject matter responsibility and authority.
  • Lead of the Platform Avionics department, with a focus on program execution, capabilities development, personnel growth, process development, and cross-functional coordination.
  • Support Systems Architecture team for Arrow satellite platform development.
  • Provide avionics architecture inputs supporting overall system, program, and mission requirements.
  • Support requirements development – initial definition, decomposition and flowdown, management.
  • Support system design and trade studies – high level concept trades to support subsequent detail design.
  • Drive multiple design activities (programs or mission).
  • Lead cross-functional teams in planning, coordination, and task execution, reporting to External Customers and Internal Program Managers.
  • Grow and develop the Avionics Systems Architecture tools, processes, and methods for Airbus U.S.
  • Perform all the necessary systems engineering activities to build, to maintain and to evolve the Airbus spacecraft products and execute development roadmaps.
  • Provide input for new business capture including proposals and Basis of Estimates.
