Platform Architect, Integrations

Canadian Tire CorporationMississauga, ON
$80,000 - $131,000Hybrid

About The Position

This role is responsible for owning and evolving the enterprise integration architecture, ensuring it supports scalability, resilience, and loose coupling across distributed systems. The architect will provide architectural leadership through design reviews and technical guidance, define and champion modern integration patterns (especially asynchronous, event-driven, and streaming), and own platform standards. This includes defining enterprise REST API standards, governing the API platform using Azure API Management, and guiding technology selection for integration platforms. The role also involves providing technical leadership for complex integration scenarios, partnering with engineering teams for production readiness, and influencing delivery teams through coaching and architectural guardrails. Collaboration with Enterprise Architects, platform teams, application teams, and security partners is key to aligning integration architecture with enterprise strategy. The ideal candidate will have a customer and AI-first mindset, contributing to standardized and adopted integration platforms where event-driven and asynchronous patterns are the default, leading to faster delivery and fewer production issues.

Requirements

  • Proven experience architecting enterprise‑scale integration solutions across distributed systems
  • Deep expertise in integration architecture patterns, including event‑driven, asynchronous messaging, and streaming architectures
  • Strong ability to translate complex business and technical requirements into pragmatic, scalable architectures
  • Demonstrated success influencing teams and stakeholders through architecture, standards, and technical leadership
  • Hands‑on Java development experience building production‑grade services
  • Practical understanding of Azure infrastructure, including subscriptions, resource groups, resources, access control with role-based access control, integrations with Azure AD, and Azure security principles (user group, service principal, managed identity), password/credential/key management, and data protection
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a focus on root cause analysis and continuous improvement
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate both technical and business concepts, as well as strong presentation skills

Nice To Haves

  • 5+ years in a Senior Architectural role
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years in an Agile delivery organization (SAFe certification preferred)
  • Experience designing and leading integration solutions on Microsoft Azure
  • Experience designing and building APIs, running them on AKS, integrating with broker-based messaging systems (Azure Service Bus, Kafka, Pulsar), and managing API exposure through gateways such as Azure APIM
  • Experience working with cloud‑native or containerized platforms (e.g., Kubernetes‑based workloads)
  • Experience with streaming platforms such as Kafka or Pulsar
  • Direct experience operating integration workloads on Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS)
  • Background defining enterprise‑wide integration governance or platform operating models

Responsibilities

  • Own and evolve the enterprise integration architecture, ensuring it supports scalability, resilience, and loose coupling across distributed systems
  • Provide architectural oversight through design reviews and technical guidance grounded in hands‑on integration experience
  • Define and champion modern integration patterns, with a strong emphasis on asynchronous, event‑driven, and streaming architectures
  • Define, document, and maintain enterprise integration patterns, reference architectures, and standards
  • Defines enterprise REST API standards, including resource modeling, HTTP semantics, versioning, and long‑term compatibility strategies
  • Establishes and governs the API platform using Azure API Management as a shared enterprise capability (policies, products, traffic management, analytics)
  • Guide technology selection and usage across integration platforms, balancing throughput, latency, reliability, and cost considerations
  • Provide technical leadership for complex, cross‑domain integration scenarios and mission‑critical production flows
  • Partner with engineering teams to ensure architectures are production‑ready, observable, and aligned with platform and security standards
  • Influence delivery teams through design reviews, coaching, and architectural guardrails rather than direct control
  • Shapes microservices interaction patterns
  • Determines when to use synchronous APIs versus asynchronous or event‑driven integration based on scalability and resilience needs
  • Work closely with Enterprise Architects, platform teams, application teams, and security partners to align integration architecture with enterprise strategy and governance
  • Act as a trusted advisor on integration decisions across the organization
