About The Position

As a cloud computing application architect, you know how to create a cloud-based technical architecture that meets client needs and takes advantage of cloud capabilities. This role will help develop cloud-based solutions for Public Health's toughest challenges. The team leads the design and implementation of secure, scalable, and modern cloud solutions supporting Public Health data modernization initiatives. This is an opportunity to use the latest cloud technologies as you look for ways to improve our client’s environment using current cloud capabilities. Technical expertise will be vital as you work with engineers, product teams, and data modernization stakeholders to inform strategy and design, ensuring standards are met throughout implementation and delivery. You will recommend tools and solutions based on research of the current environment and knowledge of various on-premises, cloud-based, and hybrid resources. You will lead your team as they help the client overcome their most difficult challenges in the cloud. Additionally, you will broaden your skillset in areas like automation, cloud-based security, and modern DevOps practices while developing critical systems that advance national Public Health outcomes.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience with software implementation, design, solution, application, or technical architecture
  • 7+ years of experience with software development using languages such as Python, Dotnet, or Java
  • Experience leading technical teams of 20+ engineers
  • Experience architecting and deploying solutions in hybrid cloud environments, developing secure, cloud-based architectures, and adhering to engineering and cloud governance standards
  • Experience deploying and troubleshooting IaaS environments and Linux or Unix-based systems, including shell scripting
  • Experience with Gen-AI tools such as GitHub Copilot, Codex, or Claude Code
  • Ability to be hands-on and client-facing, and drive projects forward while keeping releases on track
  • Ability to navigate competing priorities, discern technical solutions, and communicate with stakeholders
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust or Suitability/Fitness determination based on client requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree

Nice To Haves

  • Experience optimizing cloud cost management and implementing governance frameworks
  • Experience with Public Health field processes and data modernization efforts, and federal IT environments
  • Master’s degree in CS or a related field
  • Cloud Certifications such as AWS Solutions Architect Associate or Professional Certification, or Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect Expert Certification
