About The Position

Moog’s military Aircraft Group is looking for a Plater on 2nd shift to join them. You will report to the Performance Leader and will have an onsite work schedule in Torrance, CA. This position requires access to U.S. export-controlled information.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED preferred. Otherwise, demonstrated ability to understand and apply all verbal, written and computer work instructions or training in English, and demonstrated ability to perform simple addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
  • 3 years or more of manufacturing experience
  • Blueprint and/or sketch sheet reading
  • Ability to use various measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, gauges
  • Ability to read, interpret and follow technical instructions in English.
  • FAA Safety Sensitive position; must meet FAA's drug and alcohol testing program requirements
  • Basic computer program skills (Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook)

Responsibilities

  • Prepare parts for plating utilizing process that include cleaning (aqueous and heavy duty alkaline), masking, and abrasive blast.
  • Coat ferrous and non-ferrous parts using chemical and electro-chemical plating, treating and cleaning processes, including: cadmium, copper, temper etch, white layer, anodizing, black oxide and hard chrome, vacuum cadmium deposition, copper, anodizing (Type 1, 11 and I11), chrome, electropolish, phosphatize, brush plating and them film.
  • Plate various ferrous and non-ferrous materials and process experimental and development parts.
  • Anodizes, dichromates and chrome pickles parts.
  • Determine from blueprint and work instructions the process and EOS the process to be used, the amount of treatment desired and surfaces to be masked.
  • Compute capacity of tanks in relation to product, amount of current to use, measures amount of chemicals and acids to use and determines timing for each process.
  • Design racks on occasion when necessary.
  • Interpret specifications.
  • Check the functioning of equipment periodically during the process to estimate additional plating time required.
  • Visually inspect parts prior to unloading, for suitable surface for plating and after plating for coverage and buildup.
  • Perform post plating inspection (visual, dimensional measurements and eddy current inspection to verify plating thickness) and clean-up operations such as polishing and plastic beat blasting.
