About The Position

This position is responsible for welding steel plates and pipes in the repair and/or construction of marine vessels, industrial components, and associated equipment. The role requires understanding welding procedures and parameters, comprehending and utilizing blueprints, sketches, drawings, and technical manuals, and performing tasks such as gouging, cutting, and grinding. The welder will repair broken or cracked parts, fill holes, and increase the size of metal parts using various welding processes and equipment. Highly skilled welders may work with a variety of materials beyond steel, such as titanium and aluminum. Responsibilities include selecting and setting up welding equipment, executing planned welds, and examining welds to ensure they meet standards or specifications.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, some college or technical school certification, six months to one year(s) experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must pass an ABS, or ASME weld test.
  • Ability to work under deadlines and schedule pressures.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings, and technical manuals.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • High performance and a strong team player.

Nice To Haves

  • Highly skilled welders often are trained to work with a wide variety of materials, such as titanium, aluminum, or exotic metals, in addition to steel.

Responsibilities

  • Understand welding procedures and parameters.
  • Comprehend and utilize blueprints, sketches, drawings, and technical manuals, gouge, and work process instruction.
  • Weld steel plates and pipes in the repair and/or construction of marine vessels, industrial components, and associated equipment.
  • Use various types of welding equipment for different types of metal.
  • Weld components in a flat, vertical, or overhead position.
  • Perform related tasks such as cutting and grinding.
  • Repair broken or cracked parts, fill holes, and increase the size of metal parts.
  • Weld metal parts together using gas welding, brazing, arc welding, wire fed welding, or tig welding process and procedures.
  • Select and set up welding equipment, execute the planned welds, and examine the welds to ensure that they meet standards or specifications.
