About The Position

The Department of Surgery at the University of North Carolina is seeking applications for a full-time academic plastic surgeon to join our Division of Plastic Surgery. The Division of Plastic Surgery is among 9 clinical Divisions in the Department of Surgery. The Division currently includes 6 faculty members that provide a broad array of clinical services in order to provide the highest quality care for plastic surgery patients including oncologic reconstruction, gender affirming care, trauma (including facial and hand trauma), microvascular reconstruction, burn reconstruction, hand surgery, aesthetic and craniofacial procedures. This position is being recruited as an open-rank, open-track appointment at an FTE between 0.5 FTE and 1.0 FTE. The appointment may also be offered as a fixed term track or tenure/tenure track appointment. The faculty member will be expected to perform both clinical and research duties, along with the academic responsibilities of an educational institution. The clinical focus for this position is general plastic surgery with an emphasis on breast. Fellowship-trained applicants are encouraged to apply, but completion of a fellowship is not a requirement for this position. Other opportunities in general plastic surgery, including gender affirming care, microsurgical and post traumatic reconstruction are available. The clinical position includes call coverage for the general reconstructive surgery practice, as well as hand and/or facial trauma call. Faculty members within the Division of Plastic Surgery must possess a desire to commit to all three missions of the department and School of Medicine, including the clinical, education, and research missions. Faculty members are expected to regularly participate in the education of medical students, residents, and fellows. Commitment to any one of a broad array of research interests is desirable, including but not limited to clinical, outcomes, health services, basic science, translational, ethics, education, or global surgery research. Faculty members must be committed to delivering high quality clinical care that is of value to the patients of UNC. Selected candidate must be team-oriented and have the ability to interact well with colleagues inside and out of the Division.

Requirements

  • MD or DO degree.
  • Board certification or eligibility in Plastic Surgery.
  • Completion of an accredited Plastic Surgery residency program.
  • Ability to obtain a medical license in North Carolina.
  • Commitment to clinical, education, and research missions.
  • Team-oriented with ability to interact well with colleagues.

Nice To Haves

  • Fellowship training in Plastic Surgery.
  • Interest in and proficiency in general plastic surgery procedures with a special interest in oncologic reconstruction.
  • Research experience in clinical outcomes, quality and safety, health services, education, ethics, informatics, or basic science/translational research.
