About The Position

The Plasma Robot Programmer manages the full programming workflow for the plasma cutting robot. This includes importing and exporting flat file and 3D model data, making program adjustments, and validating new programs through quality inspection before production release. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 1+ years of experience operating or programming CNC plasma cutting equipment or industrial robots
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and cut specifications
  • Working knowledge of plasma cutting parameters: amperage, torch height, feed rate, pierce delay
  • Proficiency with robot programming interfaces or pendant-based programming
  • Basic computer and file management skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently
  • Willingness to expand programming capabilities
  • Effective communication with supervisors and cross-functional team members
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • PPE required due to heat, noise, and fumes

Nice To Haves

  • Technical/vocational training in CNC, robotics, or manufacturing preferred
  • Experience with CAD/CAM software, 3D modeling environments, and flat/3D file formats a plus

Responsibilities

  • Import flat files (DXF, DWG) and 3D model files (STEP, IGES) into the robot programming environment
  • Export finalized cut programs, maintain version control, and organize file structure
  • Coordinate with engineering or design teams to receive updated model files as needed
  • Make program adjustments including cutback modifications and tool path corrections
  • Perform deeper 3D model modifications as skills and experience develop
  • Verify cut geometry against drawings and troubleshoot programming errors or tool path conflicts
  • Perform full setup inspection and dry-run verification on every new program before production release
  • Conduct first-article cuts and compare finished parts against engineering drawings or approved specifications
  • Verify torch height, consumable status, and cut parameters for each new program; confirm material and fixture match requirements
  • Document validation results, note deviations, and obtain supervisor sign-off; maintain a program validation log
  • Follow all safety procedures for plasma cutting and robotic systems; complete pre-operation safety checks and JSA requirements
  • Maintain a clean work area and immediately report equipment malfunctions or safety hazards to the supervisor
