About The Position

Under the direction of the Steel Processing Manager, the Plasma Operator is responsible for all aspects of programming, setup, and operation of the Plasma cutting table.

Requirements

  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced and at times stressful environment.
  • Sense of urgency and ability to achieve results.
  • Able to make minor adjustments to programs and offsets.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and detail oriented.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Must be able to read and comprehend part documentation (blueprints, tolerances, inspection criteria)
  • Mechanical aptitude (working with hand tools, pneumatic tools, following work instructions for disassembling and reassembling various types of process equipment)
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 1+ years demonstrated experience operating plasma table, laser or waterjet (Flow experience preferred) and CNC equipment and/or program certificate.

Responsibilities

  • Measure dimensions of finished work pieces to ensure conformance to specifications, using precision measuring instruments, templates, and fixtures
  • Perform all required maintenance for Plasma.
  • Mount, install, align, and secure tools, attachments, fixtures, and work pieces on machines, using hand tools and precision measuring instruments
  • Adjust machine feed and speed, change cutting tools, or adjust machine controls when automatic programming is faulty or if machines malfunction.
  • Stop machines to remove finished work pieces, or to change tooling, setup, or work piece placement, according to required machining sequences.
  • Calculate machine speed and feed ratios, and the size and position of cuts.
  • Insert control instructions into machine control units to start operation.
  • Input initial part dimensions into machine control panels.
  • Review program specifications or blueprints to determine and set machine operations and sequencing, finished work piece dimensions, or numerical control sequences.
  • Monitor machine operation and control panel displays and compare readings to specifications in order to detect malfunctions.
