About The Position

BioLife Plasma Services is seeking a Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) to support plasma center operations. In this role, you will determine donor eligibility, manage donor adverse events, review laboratory test results, and notify donors of unsuitable test results. You will work under the guidance of the Center Manager for operational matters and the Center Physician for medical issues. Familiarity with plasma collection industry regulations or a manufacturing environment is expected. You will also support environmental, health, and safety (EHS) initiatives at the center level.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate equivalent of a recognized educational nursing program with state requirements.
  • Currently licensed or certified as an LPN or LVN in the state where responsibilities will be assigned.
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and AED certification.
  • Fulfill state requirements for basic IV therapy (in state of licensure).
  • Satisfactorily complete the FDA approved training requirements for BioLife Medical Support Specialist.
  • Two years in a clinical or hospital setting.

  • Bilingual in Spanish/Portuguese preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Determine donor eligibility, including managing informed consent, AIDS education and confidential self-exclusion, medical history interviews, and acceptance requirements.
  • Perform physical examinations and review blood testing and Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE) results.
  • Evaluate and manage donor reactions according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Follow SOPs for medical emergencies, including the development of Center Physician's standing orders and coordinating donor transport to emergency care facilities.
  • Refer to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs for guidance on unacceptable findings, medical or technical issues, and donor safety and eligibility.
  • Support Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs for employees.
  • Manage employee incidents and determine the need for further evaluation by occupational health or ER, referring to EHS guidance.
  • Act as a Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and support investigations related to pandemic threats as indicated by EHS or Medical Affairs.
