About The Position

BioLife Plasma Services is a subsidiary of Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Ltd. This role involves determining donor eligibility to donate plasma, managing donor adverse events, reviewing laboratory test results, and notifying donors of unsuitable test results. The Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) works under the guidance of the Center Manager for operational guidance and under the Center Physician for medical issues. The role requires familiarity with regulations of the plasma collection industry or a manufacturing environment and supports environmental, health, and safety (EHS) initiatives.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate equivalent of a recognized educational nursing program with state requirements.
  • Currently licensed or certified as an LPN or LVN in the state where responsibilities will be assigned.
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and AED certification.
  • Fulfill state requirements for basic IV therapy.
  • Satisfactorily complete FDA approved training requirements for BioLife Medical Support Specialist.
  • Two years in a clinical or hospital setting.

Responsibilities

  • Determine donor eligibility, including informed consent, AIDS education, confidential self-exclusion, medical history interview, acceptance requirements, physical examination, blood testing, and reviewing Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE).
  • Evaluate donor reactions as outlined in SOPs.
  • Follow SOPs for medical emergencies, including standing orders and donor transport to emergency care facilities.
  • Refer to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs for unacceptable findings, medical or technical issues, and donor safety/eligibility.
  • Support employee Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs.
  • Manage employee incidents and determine if further evaluation by occupational health/ER is required.
  • Act as a Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and support investigations associated with pandemic threats.
  • Collect high-quality plasma that becomes life-changing medicine.
  • Provide customer service and maintain quality standards.
