About The Position

The Planting Line Specialist (General Greenhouse Worker) role is a year-round, full-time position focused on supporting greenhouse teams to produce high-quality young plants, flowers, vegetables, and other horticultural products. This role involves assisting and coordinating groups of 5-10 workers on the Planting Line, with the flexibility to support other departments during off-peak seasons. The position requires adherence to company rules and regulations, maintaining cleanliness, and following supervisor instructions. The primary language for daily communication is Spanish, with English interpretation available upon request.

Requirements

• Must be 18 years or older.
• Must be eligible to work in the United States.
• Must be able to work in all greenhouse conditions including wet, humid, dusty, dirty, and extreme hot/cold temperatures.
• Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently push/pull racks on wheels of up to 100lbs, and occasionally move benches or product of up to 50 pounds.
• Must be able to stand/walk for intervals of 3-4 hours throughout a 5-10+ hour shift.
• Must be able to sit, reach overhead, bend/climb, maintain balance, stoop, squat, kneel, crouch or crawl.
• Must have specific vision abilities: close vision, distance vision, and color vision.
• Must have a basic level of literacy in English or Spanish, including speaking, reading, and writing.
• Must be able to work as a part of a team and communicate in a timely and respectful manner.
• REHIRE ONLY - must have worked at least 3 seasons within the last 5 years to be eligible for this position.
• Must have Saturday & Sunday availability.

Nice To Haves

• English/Spanish and other languages including Persian/Arabic are both spoken by some staff members, however primary instruction for daily operations is typically in both English/Spanish.

Responsibilities

• Support and coordinate groups of 5-10 workers on the Planting Line.
• Assist other departments as needed outside of peak season.
• Perform daily tasks which may include seeding/sticking/planting, mixing soil, preparing and filling trays/pots, planting and maintaining nursery seedlings, and putting trays onto conveyor belts.
• Clean and prepare greenhouse ranges.
• Move containerized plants or trays using racks on wheels.
• Move product in accordance with production plans and schedules.
• Attach hangers to baskets, crimp wire baskets, wrap coverings around plants, or prepare plants by digging, tying, or wrapping.
• Use scissors or small knives to prune or take cuttings from stock plants.
• Install and maintain irrigation systems and water lines.
• Water/irrigate plants or apply fertilizers/pesticides/fungicides.
• Dig and maintain ditches, clear debris, and clean greenhouse buildings, structures, equipment, and agricultural work areas.
• Assist with building, maintaining, or repairing greenhouse/farm areas, including fences or barriers.
• Pull and process plugs and finished orders according to paperwork and shipping instructions.
• Organize product on docks for loading and pull/assemble orders.
• Move orders, received materials, seeds, cuttings, and soil to designated inventory holding areas.
• Load/unload trucks according to invoices and routing.
• Build, maintain, or break down racks.
• Assist with various projects around the greenhouse as needed and directed by their Supervisor.
• Work independently or in small groups following supervisor instructions.
