About The Position

Slate is seeking a hands-on Plant Vehicle Engineering Technician to support launch readiness, production quality, and issue resolution for low-voltage systems, high-voltage electrical interfaces, and vehicle harness applications in a manufacturing plant. The role provides physical troubleshooting, inspection, repair validation, and build support for vehicle electrical systems, connectors, terminals, harness routing, grounds, power distribution, modules, and related interfaces. It focuses on plant execution, vehicle triage, and resolving physical electrical issues; it does not own electrical design release. The technician supports launch and production builds, investigates vehicle-level electrical concerns, documents findings, and assists with containment and corrective action validation. The role works cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, quality, production, suppliers, service, and vehicle integration. The position requires spending more than 75% of working time on the plant floor, flexibility to support launch builds and urgent production needs, domestic travel of up to 10–20%, and willingness to relocate to Warsaw, Indiana. Relocation assistance is provided. Applicants must be authorized to work permanently in the United States; visa sponsorship is unavailable.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience in automotive electrical work, vehicle diagnostics, harness assembly, manufacturing, service, launch, or a related technical area.
  • Experience reading wiring diagrams, schematics, connector views, pinouts, electrical repair procedures, diagnostic information, and quality standards.
  • High-voltage safety training, EV technician certification, or ability to complete company-required high-voltage qualification.
  • Strong hands-on understanding of low-voltage vehicle circuits, harness routing, connectors, terminals, grounds, fuses, relays, sensors, switches, modules, and power distribution.
  • Working knowledge of high-voltage vehicle systems, including harness routing, HV connectors, HVIL, isolation concepts, shielding, cable protection, and safe work practices.
  • Ability to troubleshoot shorts, opens, high resistance, terminal pushout, pin fit, connector damage, routing concerns, intermittent electrical faults, HVIL concerns, and harness installation issues.
  • Experience using DVOMs, scan tools, diagnostic software, breakout tools, harness repair tools, terminal tools, and basic electrical test equipment.
  • Ability to inspect and clearly document build quality concerns and communicate with engineers, technicians, production teams, quality teams, and suppliers.
  • Ability to work on the plant floor more than 75% of the time and flexibility to support launch builds, urgent production issues, teardown activities, and hands-on repair validation.
  • Ability to travel domestically up to 10–20%.
  • Must be willing to relocate to Warsaw, Indiana.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis; visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree, technical certification, automotive electrical training, EV high-voltage training, or equivalent hands-on experience.

Responsibilities

  • Support launch and ongoing production of low-voltage systems, high-voltage interfaces, and vehicle harness applications in a manufacturing plant.
  • Troubleshoot harness routing, connector engagement, pin fit, terminal damage, continuity, shorts, opens, grounds, chafing, water intrusion, and other electrical interface concerns.
  • Inspect electrical installation quality, including retention, clipping, branch routing, bend radius, strain relief, connector seating, sealing, shielding, and assembly protection.
  • Support authorized and trained checks of high-voltage harnesses and component interfaces, including routing, connector seating, HVIL continuity, isolation concerns, cable damage, retention, shielding, labeling, and installation quality.
  • Support vehicle-level electrical triage for no-start and no-communication issues, DTCs, lighting, sensors, switches, modules, charging, power distribution, low-voltage functionality, and high-voltage interface concerns.
  • Use diagnostic tools, multimeters, scan tools, breakout leads, schematics, connector views, pinout information, authorized insulation or isolation test equipment, and plant test results to investigate issues.
  • Document findings, including photographs, fault details, suspected root cause, repair actions, connector or harness condition, and validation results.
