About The Position

The Plant Technician operates plant processing equipment and performs routine basic maintenance in a highly automated chemical facility. The role includes safe and efficient maintenance, basic repair, and cleaning of equipment associated with bioprocessing. Technicians may also assist Maintenance Technicians with more technical procedures. Team members must understand process flow, computerized equipment, associated hazards, and standard operating procedures. Continuous plant operation requires 12-hour shifts, adaptability to 12-hour workdays, and availability for call-ins as needed.

This is an onsite role in Jewell, Iowa. The schedule alternates between days, 7:00 AM–7:00 PM, and nights, 7:00 PM–7:00 AM, with rotation every six weeks, including weekends and holidays. The position requires working in a safety-sensitive plant environment, using personal protective equipment and tools and equipment for plant operations and maintenance.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Working knowledge of math, reading comprehension, and mechanical reasoning.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent organizational, time-management, and communication skills, and the ability to embrace change.
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn new programs.
• Ability to work 12-hour shifts, adapt to 12-hour workdays, and meet call-in requirements as needed.
• Plant Technician II: documented successful performance as a Plant Technician I or equivalent work experience.
• Plant Technician III: documented proficiency in the skills listed in the Plant Technician III Skills Checklist.
• Ability to perform the stated physical demands and work safely in the described environment.
• Must undergo a pre-employment physical and pass a drug screen; random drug and alcohol testing applies during employment.

Nice To Haves

• Production-environment experience for Plant Technician I.
• Experience with software systems such as Maximo.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and operate plant processes as required.
• Perform and document maintenance and basic repairs of plant equipment.
• Operate the plant’s Distributed Control System (DCS).
• Perform basic electrical troubleshooting safely.
• Follow procedures for plant startup, shutdown, cleaning, and batching.
• Maintain accurate and timely logs.
• Collect and test quality control samples, interpret QA/QC results, make operational adjustments, document results, and enter them into the PI data collection system.
• Assist with removal, installation, rebuilding, and preventive and predictive maintenance of equipment associated with plant processes.
• Maintain plant cleanliness by following sanitation schedules and completing assigned tasks.
• Notify management of safety, environmental, quality, and production concerns, problems, and opportunities.
• Promote safe behavior and environmental compliance.
• Maintain a team environment and represent POET in the community.
• Maintain and advance food safety and the quality of POET products and processes.
