Job Overview As the Plant Operations Supervisor, under the direction of the General Manager or Operations Manager, is responsible for overseeing the daily operations, maintenance, safety, and regulatory compliance of a wastewater treatment and resource recovery facility. This role supervises plant personnel, optimizes treatment processes, ensures environmental compliance, and drives operational efficiency throughout the facility. The facility processes wastewater generated from grease trap collections transported by company-operated trucks, as well as third-party waste streams including grease, lint, septic waste, and used cooking oil (UCO). The treatment process includes grease recovery, pH stabilization, polymer treatment, dissolved air flotation (DAF), sludge dewatering, centrifuge operations, and solids disposal. This position plays a critical role in achieving the company’s mission of producing cleaner water, maximizing grease recovery and recycling efforts, maintaining safe plant operations, and ensuring compliance with all local, state, and federal environmental regulations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in wastewater treatment, liquid waste management, or industrial processing operations.
  • Minimum of 2 years of supervisory or leadership experience in an industrial or wastewater treatment environment.
  • Strong understanding of wastewater treatment processes, including DAF systems, screw press operations, polymer treatment, sludge dewatering, pH control, centrifuge operations, and industrial wastewater processing.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience with cost management, chemical optimization, and operational efficiency initiatives.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequent standing, walking, and climbing stairs and ladders.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and adverse weather conditions.
  • Must possess good vision and hearing for monitoring operations and identifying issues.
  • Work in confined spaces, including tanks and treatment areas.
  • Climb ladders and operate platforms at varying heights.
  • Work in varying weather conditions and exposure to unpleasant odors and potentially hazardous materials.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Wastewater Operations, or related field preferred.
  • Experience working with grease trap waste, septic waste, or high FOG (Fats, Oils & Grease) wastewater systems preferred.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
  • TCEQ Class B Wastewater License preferred
  • OSHA 10-Hour Certification preferred
  • First Aid / CPR Certification preferred
  • Confined Space Entry Certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate all daily plant operations related to wastewater treatment, grease recovery, sludge processing, and UCO processing.
  • Monitor and optimize wastewater treatment systems, including pH stabilization, polymer dosing, DAF systems, sludge separation, screw press operations, and centrifuge systems.
  • Ensure treated water consistently meets discharge requirements for the public sewer system and all environmental standards.
  • Oversee the processing of grease trap waste, lint waste, septic waste, and other liquid waste streams.
  • Supervise grease recovery operations and UCO processing to maximize recycling and resale opportunities.
  • Manage storage tanks, cook tanks, pumps, valves, and related treatment equipment.
  • Ensure all pumps, valves, DAF systems, screeners, screw presses, and disposal systems remain in safe and efficient operating condition.
  • Lead, train, coach, and develop plant personnel while fostering a positive, accountable, and safety-focused work culture.
  • Schedule and assign daily work responsibilities to ensure efficient plant operations and staffing coverage.
  • Foster strong communication, mentoring, leadership, and employee development practices throughout the facility.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, TCEQ, EPA, local environmental regulations, and company safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate operational, maintenance, safety, and environmental compliance records.
  • Prepare and submit required reports for city, state, and regulatory agencies.
  • Coordinate routine and emergency maintenance activities for plant equipment and machinery.
  • Troubleshoot operational and mechanical issues involving pumps, tanks, centrifuges, screw presses, DAF systems, and related processing equipment.
  • Analyze operational data to improve treatment performance and reduce operational costs.
  • Optimize chemical usage, disposal costs, labor efficiency, and overall plant performance metrics.
  • Develop and implement emergency response procedures and serve as a first responder during plant emergencies.
  • Collect and analyze wastewater samples to monitor treatment efficiency and regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment for all personnel.
  • Participate in training and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and employee development.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Supervision of Wastewater Plant Technicians and assigning daily tasks and responsibilities.
