About The Position

Silgan Containers is hiring a Plant Superintendent – Manufacturing to lead operations at our Burlington, Iowa, manufacturing facility. This manufacturing leadership role reports directly to the Plant Manager and is responsible for plant operations, production throughput, quality assurance, safety compliance, labor management, lean manufacturing, and continuous improvement initiatives. The Plant Superintendent will oversee manufacturing operations, inbound and outbound product flow, supply chain coordination, employee relations, and performance management in a high-volume, fast-paced industrial manufacturing environment.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent experience in manufacturing, operations, industrial management, or industrial engineering
  • Progressive leadership experience in manufacturing, production, or plant operations within a high-volume environment
  • Strong knowledge of SPC, root cause analysis, quality management systems (QMS), and manufacturing processes
  • Experience in union manufacturing environments and labor relations, including CBA administration
  • Familiarity with ERP systems, production planning, and data-driven decision-making
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, improve KPIs, and deliver measurable operational results
  • Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills in a manufacturing setting

Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day manufacturing plant operations, including production scheduling, throughput optimization, quality control, safety compliance, and operational efficiency
  • Review quality inspection reports, SPC data, and production metrics; investigate issues and implement corrective actions using root cause analysis and CAPA methodologies to meet manufacturing quality standards
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives using lean manufacturing, Six Sigma principles, Kaizen events, and waste reduction strategies
  • Apply and administer the Collective Bargaining Agreement consistently to support union labor relations, including grievance resolution and workforce engagement
  • Ensure compliance with manufacturing safety programs, OSHA regulations, environmental health and safety (EHS) standards, and company policies
  • Supervise and develop 5–10 direct reports, supporting leadership development, workforce planning, and succession planning
  • Analyze labor utilization, machine efficiency (OEE), scrap rates, and material usage to improve productivity and reduce operational costs
  • Support plant budgeting, capital expenditure planning, and equipment investment decisions
  • Partner with HR on recruiting, onboarding, training, and workforce development in a union manufacturing setting
  • Oversee inbound raw materials, inventory control, warehouse operations, and outbound logistics to maintain supply chain continuity and on-time delivery
  • Maintain clear communication across plant leadership, maintenance, engineering, quality, production, and cross-functional teams
