About The Position

ERCO Worldwide is looking for a Plant Services Technician to join their team. This is an entry-level rail car loading position, reporting to the Plant Services Supervisor. The role involves inspecting and loading chemical railcars and trucks with KOH, NaOH, and HCl. The Level 1 Plant Services Technician is responsible for the safe and efficient movement of chemicals by rail and truck.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Complete training on NDT – Bubble Leak Test and Chemical Reactivity Test required.
  • Ability to operate Shuttle Wagons, Locomotive, Forklift and UTV required.
  • 1 year of experience as a Technician and/or Labourer with an ability to work outside.

Nice To Haves

  • Diploma from a vocational institution in rail car maintenance, railroad operations or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Loading 3 types of chemical products: KOH, NaOH and HCl into General Purpose tank cars.
  • Ensuring correct positioning and securing of railcars at each loading station (Handbrake, Wheel Chocks, Safety Railing).
  • Completing pre-load inspection to ensure railcar is within compliance before loading.
  • Loading railcars using product specific batchers and setting batcher amounts to ensure the car is not overloaded.
  • Completing post-load inspection to ensure the railcar is leak-free before sealing the load.
  • Entering all railcar information into the Load Management System.
  • Weighing all loaded railcars on the track scale, ensuring that the car is within weight restrictions.
  • Operating Locomotive and Shuttlewagon to safely switch railcars.
  • Sorting Inbound railcars daily and putting outbound trains together with requested shipments.
  • Completing Pre-ship inspections to ensure all outbound railcars are within compliance of FRA/AAR regulations.
  • Interacting with CN train crew and transferring HAZMAT paperwork.
  • Loading 3 types of chemical products (KOH, NAOH, and HCI) into product specific truck trailers.
  • Ensuring customer requirements are met.
  • Entering all information into the Load Management System.
  • Ensuring trailer meets DOT requirements (Seals, Placards, Bill of Lading, Certificate of Analysis and Product Safety Data Sheet).
  • Adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Maintaining records of all loading activities.
