About The Position

Xcel Energy is seeking a Plant Reliability Electrical Engineer to join its Energy Supply Power Generation team. This role focuses on supporting the reliable and efficient operation of power plant assets, with a primary emphasis on electrical systems. The engineer will provide technical support for equipment repairs and troubleshooting, contribute to projects including design, procurement, and commissioning, and collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Environmental, and Project teams to ensure safe and reliable plant performance. Responsibilities include developing technical documentation, supporting testing and inspections, assisting with project planning and budgeting, and communicating with internal stakeholders and external vendors, all while applying engineering principles and standards in a dynamic operating environment. This position is designed to develop technical expertise and can be placed at an entry, staff, or senior level based on the candidate's skills and experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET accredited curriculum (electrical engineering degree preferred).
  • 0+ years of relevant engineering experience (for entry-level).
  • 2+ years of relevant engineering experience (for staff level).
  • 5+ years of relevant engineering experience with EIT/FE (for senior level).
  • 7+ years of relevant engineering experience without EIT/FE (for senior level).
  • Ability to demonstrate unique technical skills and core competencies for the engineering level.
  • Demonstrated broad knowledge and proficiency in specialty area, knowledge of related specialties, and general knowledge of other related disciplines (for staff and senior levels).

Nice To Haves

  • EIT/FE (Engineer in Training/Fundamentals of Engineering) preferred (for entry and staff levels).
  • PE (Professional Engineer) registration may be required depending on business need (for senior level).

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for equipment repairs and troubleshooting.
  • Contribute to projects including design, procurement, and commissioning.
  • Collaborate closely with Operations, Maintenance, Environmental, and Project teams to maintain safe and reliable plant performance.
  • Develop technical documentation, including designs, testing procedures, calculations, reports, and standards.
  • Support testing and inspections.
  • Assist with project planning and budgeting activities.
  • Communicate with internal stakeholders and external vendors.
  • Apply engineering principles and standards in a dynamic operating environment.
  • Perform activities of limited scope involving conventional types of plans, investigations, surveys, structures, or equipment with few complex features and established precedents.
  • Lead small-medium, non-critical projects and/or provide field oversight of critical projects under the direction of a higher-level engineer or supervisor.
  • Coordinate or lead projects or portions of projects, including research, design, equipment selection, procurement support, installation, and commissioning, under the direction of a higher-level engineer or supervisor.
  • Support bid/evaluation processes by performing basic analysis and calculations on existing documentation and materials.
  • Effectively exchange information in all formats on matters of importance and complexity both inter-organizationally and with outside customers/vendors.
  • Coordinate the work of interns, drafters, technicians, and/or others.
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to less experienced engineers.
  • Engage in continuous self-development of technical skills and competencies.
  • Perform activities such as budgeting, estimating, forecasting, accounting, and work order management in support of engineering projects.
